You're engorged...that's what happens if you abruptly stop breastfeeding. It will stop in a few days...try cabbage leaves (frozen ones) and ice packs to reduce the pain...along with some ibuprofen.
Good Luck :-)

Wow some of those answers...some were good though but binding is an absolute no no it greatly increases the risk of infections and blocked milk ducts.
The best options are alternating heat and cold- use a hot shower or a heating pad for the hot then wait 20-30 mins and switch to cold- frozen peas or corn in the frezzer bags is easy and no mess reusable solution. Definetly stick to motrin for pain relief if possible your body is reacting to the swelling as inflamation. After 2-3 days with cold/heat when the pain is at its worst should give you some relief.
Your breasts will also begin to leak often and unpredictably so carry lots of nursing pads if you have them- or an easy cost effective option is panty-liners. They stick to the inside of your bra- are thin and absorb more without leaking striaght through the other side.

Give yourself a couple of days. Wrap your chest tightly in an ace bandage, place cold cabbage leaves in your bra, or wear just wear a tight fitting bra, any of these will help ease the pain. If the engorgement is too much to bear it is okay to express a small amount of milk to relieve the pressure, but not so much that it makes your body produce even more milk.

You may need to pump the breasts, only do small amounts because the more you take out the more they sometimes will fill up,this will at least remove some of the pressure and you can slowly slack off and they will not hurt near as bad

Get yourself some Ace bandages & bind yourself from under your arms to below your breasts - not too tight. This will help keep the milk from coming in and relieve the pressure. You will need more than one bandage.

Did you stop suddenly or slowly? You need to slowly kind of ween yourself off of breastfeeding. Empty yourself at intervals that get longer each time. Eventually you will stop producing milk and your breast will stop hurting.

After having my babies, I wrapped them really tight and took motrin and sudafed. It took about a week. Also try cold cabbage leaves in your bra. It sounds dumb, but alot of people will swear by it!
