Maybe because they lose a little bit of body function when they are purring? Just like if someone's doing something to you that feels really good like a backrub, you just stop moving and focus all your attention on how great it feels.

The people saying cats don't drool clearly never had a cat that drools. I have the most proper little 5 year old cat and she ALWAYS drools when she purrs. She's just content. We've had her checked to see if anything's wrong but the vet said she has the health of a 2-3 year old with little to no signs of aging. If your cat drools all the time even when it's not purring, have it checked out and mention it to the vet next time. Sometimes cats just drool. My girl cat is the first cat for me to drool and she is by far the healthiest I have ever had.

Hi John...this is a sign of kitty contentment. A happy cat will purr, and knead their paws. Occasionally, cats really who are in heaven will drool on their owners.

My cat mostly drools when she's laying by me purring and kneading on my neck. I heard that it's a throw-back to their kitten instinct and they think you're they're Mommy and thinking about nursing. . .this may be crazy but I always wondered if my cat got weaned too young and got stuck in that kitten phase. She's about 12 years old and still does it. It's pretty gross in the middle of the night when she drools on your neck.

your cat is fine. mine does the same thing. the louder he purrs, the more he drools. he's three years old and has always done it. don't worry.

Cats also purr when they are in pain, he may have a problem. Explain this problem to your Vet.

Some cats do, some cats don't. One of mine does and the other doesn't. I think it is because he just gets soooo relaxed he forgets to swallow his spit. Like when you sleep, you're so relaxed you don't swallow your spit as much and your facial muscles loosen so you drool.

Because they're happy. If there is excessive drooling, it could be a bad tooth.
