I just bought an eight week old pug puppy from a pet store. I paid a little over $1,000 for her. She is CAC registered and she comes with a 3 year warranty, a vet check, clean bill of health, a free spay certificate, and a few other goodies. Did I pay to much for my little Pepper? I am not sure. If it matters any, I bought her from Petland. Please leave me some feedback. Thanks!

I am sorry, it should have been ACA - American Canine Association

Yes. Your dog most likely came from a puppy mill - this means that your dog is at higher risk for genetic ailments and difficulties, was probably kept in terrible conditions the first weeks of her life, was sold too young, and her mother will breed until she no longer produces viable offspring and then she'll be thrown away. ACA is not AKC, it's a lesser organization that many disreputable breeders use to sell dogs as 'papered'. The free stuff that you got isn't worth $1000 considering what the money went to support.

I got my purebred 8 month old from a purebred rescue group for $150, already spayed, full vet check, full shots, and a guarantee that if I can't keep her they will take her back and if I can't afford medical bills, they will help as much as they can.

But, everyone has to learn sometime and if you love your dog, then there is no price you could put on her. Get her fixed as soon as you can and never purchase from a petstore (even dog food, toys, bowls, etc) that sells animals again. Try to only purchase from stores with adoption centers or no pets at all. You can't feel guilty for something already done, so instead promise to take care of your new family member and never buy from a pet store again.

Have fun with her! : )

You definately paid way too much for her..she's not even really registered. ACA is not a legit registry. It is a scam registry that was made up by irresponsible breeders/mills so that they could register dogs that were unable to be registered in a legit registry for various reasons( not purebred, sold on a limited registration and spay/neuter contract from a legit registry, never had papers, etc) and/or the breeder is suspended from ever doing business with a legit registry such as AKC/UKC/CKC (Canadian Kennel Club).

You could have bought a wonderfully bred puppy from a responsible breeder registered with a legit registry for considerably less.
Pet store puppies mostly come from puppy mills. By buying a puppy from a pet store you line the pockets of irresponsible breeders and encourage them to crank out more puppies.
Pet store puppies are also very over priced.

Any time you purchase from a pet store, you run the risk of getting an over-priced animal that may or may not be healthy. I worry about pet stores selling animals from puppy mills. A thousand dollars for a Pug is probably too much, I haven't bought a pug in a few years, but I have never paid over 250 for a healthy home-grown alien looking dog!!

Well IM not going to ramble on & on as pretty much everyone else had said whats to be said about PetStores, puppy mills, etc etc....in my thoughts though as far as price goes I do believe you paid too much in the aspect that she is not AKC registered & @ $1000.00 plus she should have AKC papers with info on her blood lines & heritage, you should be able to show her if you wanted to at that price. I do think that a 3 year warranty, clean bill of health(though Id be sure to check w said vet as to be SURE on this & STILL TAKE HER TO YOUR OWN CHOICE OF VET ASAP as pugs can have health problems) also the free spay certificate is impressive but AKC show quality pugs cost about that much & honestly a pet quality pup shoudnt have such a high price tag. BUT, being as you luv her & she luvs you then I really dont see it mattering one way or the other...but yes you did overpay. LUV HER UP SHES YOURS NOW!!! Best of luck to you & your new addition!!!

Yes that is WAY to much for a pup from a pet store (puppy mill puppy) but don't feel bad many fall for the same thing, that's why they are in pet stores.
CAC is nothing more than a puppy mill registry, and the fact is that you in reality paid $1000 for an UNREGISTERED puppy. I can even register my WIFE with CAC!!!!!!!!!
They only hand out certificates,, they keep no records.

Petland, and other pet stores always charge way too much for thier dogs. Sure, you've got a spay certificate and ACA certified, and other goodies but do you know anything about her lines?? I hope so. But really, if you love her, what does it matter? She will be worth 10 times that!!

First of all.. no one should ever ever ever buy puppies from pet stores because most pet stores, not all, but a lot of them are supplied by puppy mills, if you don't know what a puppy mill is, google it.. it'll give you nightmares!! But to answer your question, did you pay too much for your little Pepper???.. nowadays registered puppies can go for as much as $5000 depending on the breed and the lineage.. but bottom line is, if you love your dog and you really wanted her, then it was all worth it *s*.

It depends. What's too much for a cute and healthy new pet? When I was looking for a pure bred small dog, the going rate seemed to be anywhere from $500 to $1000. Sounds like you got a good deal: ACA registered, 3 yr warranty, vet check, spay certif, etc. Congrats on your new puppy!

I would say that that is not too much for a puppy, but from petland, yes. Most of the dogs and cats you get at petland are from pet farms, where they breed the mother until they can't breed her anymore, making the puppies very week as well as the mother.

I didn't read the others but I am sure I am repeating what others may say.

YES you paid too much

And NEVER BUY a dog from a pet store. (although though free spay is impressive) I would never trust a pet store and consider buying from one promotes puppy mills.
