Unfortunately no it is not possible to fly non-stop between New York and Sydney. The journey is usually via at least Los Angeles but will vary according to the airline you select. Journey time, in the air and including most ground transit time is about 23 hours.

I'm not sure how many hours it would take to fly to Sydney from New York. I believe it is possible for some aircraft to fly from New York to Sydney nonstop, but I don't think that you would find an airline that would have the flight. It's most likely that you would have to stop in Los Angeles, Seattle, or Honolulu before continuing to Sydney. Keep in mind that most international flights will depart from JFK or Newark not LGA. So when looking for tickets with fewer stops go with one of these two airports.

It takes 14 hours non stop Syd to LAX, so add your time from NY onto that.

There might be direct flights, but I am unsure. I don't know if there is or not.

Good luck.
