I was thinking about traveling and volunteering in a different country next summer.. has anyone ever done this and where?

I suggest you do wildlife/environmental work. Humans are far from extinct, but the wildlife need your help.
Here is a site with volunteer projects in ever continent. Looks like amazing fun.

Try Habitat for Humanity. Great and very rewarding volunteer work all over the world.

i was in Brasil and Romania is very nice there you cand see beautiful things , exotic animals , plans , tree, mountains it deserve.
