All human beings—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly PARENTS, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny. Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose.

I would have to say that if there is in fact any god that the real god is likely not male. Woman is the giver of life. Many religions that exist even to today had their beginnings as a earth mother worship. Of course I actually believe that all the religions that existed before the sword of Christianity had every right to be true. Even the bible states (a man wrote that he thinks) that god himself said that ye shall worship no other gods before me - why would he feel he had to be quite so specific????? Hmmm?

Read the bible and study it.

"God is NOT a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent.." Numbers 23:19

Through scripture, "Man" represents for the whole human race. In this scripture "man" could mean both male or female, since both man and woman have lied. Since woman has lied, then God cannot be a woman niether. God is not a man or a woman, but a form which we cannot comprehend, which is described in the bible. The bible says, Jesus became a man, it doesn't mean he was a man before he stepped on the earth. He became a man, to be our sacrifice.

Many use the phrase..."The man upstairs" all the time and everywhere, but God says,"He is not a man, that he should lie."

The Bible is full of allegories that illustrate to us that God contains both the male and female characteristic. That does not mean God is a girl. What is means that God in his infinite love and mercy, becomes the perfect parent for any given situation in our life. If a person lacks a mother figure in their life from childhood, God takes that mother role (read the Bible on this), he knows all about mothers and what they are in a child's life. But if a child doesn't have a father, God becomes that father in their life. God is above all full of authority and kingship. But he also cares about his people like a mother would care for her children - the nuturing, the protectiveness and reminding us to keep focus on Him at all times. God has the attributes of both male and female but He is still takes on a male role as far as rulership is concerned.

That is of course if you assume God even has a sex. If I remember correctly, God created man in his image, but God didn't actually create a version of himself per se. Does that mean God is some weird mix of man/woman? Of course not. God is most likely a level beyond humans and for all intents and purposes "he" is can't be described using simple pronouns. So why does the bible call him he? Sexual bias is possible, but it could just be faith.

(By the way, I am actually, believe it or not, an atheist but since I know a few things about theism, I decided I at least answer in an unbiased fashion and try to be as helpful as possible).

Sister, the ancient world was a man's world. Sometimes it is as simple as this and in a mans world power is classified as masculine. Religious Texts are documents of the ancient world and therefore G-d is always treated as masculine. Though the Torah proclaims that He created man in His own image, male and female He created them. This points us to a divinity that is not in-gendered but has the full qualities of female and male. In classic Christian writing we have the example of the English anchorite, sister Julian of Norwich, who spoke of the love of christ as the love of a mother, feeding her children from her own breasts. At the heart of good theology there is always the move towards the feminine of G-d. But now we inhabit the world of the testosterone driven male god of war. How sad.

The answer to the question about why God is referred to with masculine terms in the Bible really has only one answer: This is the way God has chosen to reveal Himself to us. God is never described with sexual characteristics in the Scriptures, but He does consistently describe Himself in the masculine gender. While He contains all the qualities of both male and female genders, He has chosen to present Himself with an emphasis on masculine qualities of fatherhood, protection, direction, strength, etc. Metaphors used to describe Him in the Bible include: King, Father, Judge, Husband, Master, and the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

There are those who would like to blur this emphasis in some of the newer Bible translations, but it is very dangerous to tamper with the way God has chosen to reveal Himself. He most certainly does not intend to minimize women, since men and women are revealed as made in His image and of equal value to Him. But it remains that He is Father, not Mother, and even in the Incarnation chose to come to us as a man, Jesus Christ. One famous Christian scholar, C. S. Lewis, has suggested that gender is far deeper than our human distinctions reveal. He suggests that God is so masculine that we all are feminine in relation to Him. If this is true, it might explain why the church is referred to as the bride of Christ, though it is composed of both men and women.

I think that's because patriarchal societies were well in place by the time such things were being written down. I personally believe that the deity is represented by both. I guess we'll never know until we die, and maybe not even then.

Since God existed before organic organisms he is both and neither.
Referring to him as a male is just to make it easier for us humans to understand.
