As soon as you know your soldier’s graduation date, call Fort Jackson's Victory Travel Office at 1-800-221-3503 for assistance making local hotel reservations. On-post accommodations are very limited, please call 1-803-782-9802, 10 days before your arrival to inquire about availability. To make arrangements to stay in a cabin at Weston Lake Recreational Area, call (803) 751-5253.
your bf must submit a list of people who will be attending graduation and family day and then fort jackson will mail you a pamphlet and other info. you don't need to get security clearance to get on base as long as you have a visitors pass.
as for getting to the base either rent a car or there are cabs that wait at the airport its about $20 one way from columbia airport to fort jackson

Family day and graduation from basic training is an awesome day for your new soldier. The post will have guest lodging. The guest lodging might not have slots open though. You're best bet is to find a hotel right off post. All you will need to get onto post is a photo i.d. You can take a cab. You said columbia airport so im guessing fort jackson, s.c. Once you get to post they will inspect the cab and possibly sign in at the visitor's center. Then you go to where you need to go. Your new soldier will probably not be able to stay the night with you, but he will have some free time to spend. So, I hope this helps and have fun.

Go to the web site for the base. They should have links for you there. The family day is the day before graduation. The soldiers may leave base with family and return around 9:00 pm. They must remain in their ACUs and cannot smoke or drink that day. Graduation is usually around 10:00 am the next day. The soldiers may get a two or three day pass at that time, then must report to their assignment at the end of the pass.
There are generally a few sites to stay on base. You will need ID to enter the base, and if you drive you need registration and proof of insurance. I stay in a hotel near base so I can get me son out of there on the family day. He has had enough of the base by then. Be prepared with lots of his favorite snacks!

First of all, if you are NOT married, you will NOT be staying on post overnight -- not even a remote possibility. HE will take care of making sure that your name, some identifying information, if you are driving (he will need your car's license plate number), and then you will have to report into the visitor's center right outside of the main gate to get the pass to the ceremony -- and you will be handed a map to get you there most efficiently.
Transportation to the Post is only provided for the Military Servicemember -- so plan on either taking a cab, a shuttle bus, or renting a vehicle for the day to get to the post.

As long as you have a drivers license you will be able to get on Ft. Jackson. When you drive up you just tell the MP's why you are there. Will not be a problem. Your b/f is talking about staying somewhere on post? Not too sure about that. If you are not married to him? But there are lots of motels in Columbia. I would do an internet search for hotels in Columbia, S.C.
I graduated from Basic there in 1991. The family day and grad. are great. Enjoy it!! And tell your boyfriend America is proud of him.

Been a while for me so things may have changed.
Our families couldnt stay on base but were offered negotiated rates at hotels surrounding the base. Also, our families were eligible for discounted airfare. We were provided with all the info to give to our families weeks before boot completed.
