My son has just finished his 1st wk at Air Force BMT. He says he only gets 2 minutes to eat his meals. What's up with that? How can you eat enough in that time to have the energy for all the physical stuff. Just a mom worrying about her son.

How the chow hall works is the tables sit 4 people each. When the table next to you gets up you need to hurry up and drink and start getting up. Basically it looks like a crowd thats doing the wave. It does come out to be about 2 minutes.

This is all due to the discipline he will need in the military. This time frame isnt something they just started. Its what I went through in 2001 and prob close to what the guys that came into the AF back in 1947 went through. If it was unhealthy then they wouldnt do it.

Your son will be fine. It will be over before he knows it. I dont know if you are going to his graduation but just letting you know it does mean a lot when you parents show up.

Take care and good luck to your son.

Even though it is the Air Force it is still a part of the military and trust me there are situations where you don't get much time to eat. it's just a stress thing. Basic's job is to break you down to nothing and rebuild you into a service member. you kid will be fine, remember there are a lot of people that made it through safely before him and there are a lot more to come.

although you get a short amount of time you learn to eat quickly. He'll be fine. The reason for that is the fact that depending on your situation you must learn to eat fast. I was in the Navy and we did the same thing. When we were working at sea we sometimes had very little time to eat because of our jobs. You still get enough.

On a side note. Thank you for raising an honorable young man and thank him for serving our country as well.
