My belief in the bible as God's word came from a decade of study. I did not start out believing that the bible was the word of God; I have come to believe it after ten years of very diligent study. Yes, the original manuscripts are very old, that is so. Some books are thousands of years old. And yet it speaks to us today, it has wisdom, encouragement, it admonishes us, lifts us up, warns us, gives us hope and direction, and contains all things necessary for salvation and godliness.

I believe in God...not the Bible. Big difference. The Bible is a great teachings of our past are the understandings of the foundations of Christianity. But just like how a student goes to school to learn, religion is the same way. Huh? Yep, there is a difference between knowledge and wisdom. Any person can be book smart (knowledge), but if you take that knowledge and put it into action (wisdom), you are now living the life that God has intended.
Seriously, each time these Bible thumpers question you on "Can you quote...?" I can;t, and I think most people can't either. Do you actually think God is going to have a test like that after you die? "ie 1) Quote John 4:11...-5 for spelling errors" Please. I don;t think so. God is concerned about how you lived your life, and did you do the right thing when it counted the most. The Bible is there for guidance, historical facts and understanding. If you need advice from God...pray...he's waiting. : )
Hope this helps

I hope you are not one of those people who does not believe in the historical accuracy of the Bible. The idea that the Bible cannot be viewed as an accurate historical source is absurd. Never has archaelogy uncovered anything that goes aganist what is written in the Bible. In fact, the oposite is true. For those who would say the Bible is not the Word of God, or that the Bible contains numerous errors I would say this: Paul could say in 2nd Timothy 3:16, "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God." That's the Greek word, "theopneustos" meaning "God-Breathed." Every single word was given from God to 40 different men, and 2nd Peter 1:21 adds: "for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God." Now that was the Old Testament. The New Testament wasn't in existence when Paul used these verses. He was telling the churches in his letters what had happened in the past, but in John 16:12-13, Jesus talked about the coming of the New Testament. He says, "I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come."
That's the New Testamant. And we can say with John 17:17, "Your Word is Truth." Today, we have 66 books written by 40 different individuals on 3 continents covering a period of 1,500 years and there's not one mistake, regardless of what some of the critics say. They haven't studied God's Word enough to know the truth. Among the writers we had kings, poets, philosophers, prophets, scholars and fisherman. And I want you to know we have all of the Word of God today. Someone says, "Yes, but we don't have the original manuscripts" Who said so?
We have copies totalling 24,800. Now, how do we know that they're right? Well, if you take 20 items and you compare them and 19 state one thing and one doesn't, then the one is in error. We've got 24,800 manuscripts that exist today to compare one against another and we have another 80,000 quotations from the church fathers, enough to put the entire Bible together with the exception of 11 verses. Take the 80,000 quotations from the church fathers and the 24,800 manuscripts for a total of 104,800 and you have all of God's Word dozens and hundreds of times. This is so because God's Word is literally flawless. After computers have compared millions, or even billions, of letters in analyzing the 104,800 manuscripts the texts are basically flawless. So, don't listen to the critics. The Bible is in fact the Word of God!

The reason I believe in the Bible is because #1 - it has got some great stories. #2 - there is so much to learn about humanity and the history of mankind. #3, the Bible is a love letter from God to man. It may be an old document and translated into many versions and languages but the main message does not change. Archeology can prove the places and the people of the Bible existed. But it is awesome to know that there is a God who loves people, and he sent his only son - Jesus - to save humanity from hell. It is nice to know that we have a choice to either serve God or serve ourselves. There is so much encouragement, correction, comfort, and love when I read the Bible. The closer I get to God in a relationship the more I love his Word and the more it comes alive and is activated in my life.

Because the Bible is true. Just look around you in 2Timothy chapter3 verses1-9 The character of Men in the Last Days. If you read it you will see that this is all true right now, so if it had many translations and many authors then they all must be right. There were many authors(all men of God) but the translators are false. 2 Timothy says that in the last days perilous times shall come. Men shall be lovers of their own selves, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God. All of these things are true right now. So the Bible is not just to make us scared to be good. It is just God's warning about how the devil wants to kill us and take us with him and God is just trying to tell us that he has a better place for us. Hell is not God place for you as a punishment, he is just trying to keep you out of there because he knows your destiny if you don't change your way of thinking and living. He has one place and that is Heaven so don't be confused. When I first became a christian it was very confusing to me, but you can't give up you just have to keep studying and do your own research.Church is just a small part of being a christian, ministry and knowing is the big part. Also living what you have learned.

The bible is meant to be used as allegory and metaphor. If you look at it that way, it is an extremely valuable and useful book. If you take it as being literal word for word, it contradicts itself repeatedly. Biblical archaeology has shown that some of it is false, but it has also shown that some of it is true. Do I believe in the bible? How can I not believe in a book that existed for 2,000 years and has heavily influenced culture and history? I also believe in the dictionary - use literature wisely.

Because I don't deny my own personal experiences. It's just
as hard for me to understand people that don't believe, since
they themselves have had a spiritual experience of some kind.
