You need to go back to the company that sold you the laptop.

When you say, "i had to do a system restore", I assume you mean you used the CD/DVD that came with your computer and restored the image on your hard drive as if it was a new computer. If that was the case, then Microsoft Works should have came back with it. One of the dangers of running this is completely wipes out everything that was on the hard drive, so you need to make sure you back up your data before you run this type of restore or you will lose all your data and there will be no way of ever getting it back.

I'm not sure what kind of restore you ran, but if your computer came with a CD/DVD you can put that in your computer and try running that. There might be an option for installing extra applications such as Microsoft Works, or you might be able to use the Window Explorer to navigate the disk and find the install for Works. Just be careful that you don't run a full restore of your hard drive as I mentioned above.

You can also check under the control panel, under add and remove programs, then change or remove programs. You might be able to fix it through there.

Who knows, the probram might still be installed with all the correct registry entries and you just lost your short cuts, so it could be just a matter of creating them again.

If all that fails and it's probably not worth restoring your whole hard drive. So, if all else fails it might be worth coughing up the $50 to buy Microsoft Works 8.0 Standard Edition from Best Buy.

Check in control panel\ add or remove programs, if it came with the laptop it should be there or on the restore cd.

Vicky's right, BUT.

Are you running current virus and spyware? xp will run on 256 megs of RAM, & if your PC shows no virus/spyware, double the RAM to _at least_ 1/2 a Gig

Undo the restore and it should be back on.
