i just happened to look through a couple of questions on the issue of abortion. it seems there are a lot of conservative grownups and children to whom an zygote, embryo, fetus has been sensationalized to the point of being a child. personally, i feel that only very early abortion for elective reasons is ok, and that abortion should not be banned. i'll elaborate on my views later if asked.
what really bugged me about the views expressed on other questions was the lack of personal experience, valuation of z/e/f over a woman even in extreme cases, the use of religion to justify legislation, and the overwhelming majority of prolifers even though the country as a whole is pro choice. any thoughts on this?
btw, i am sexually active and use both condoms and spermicide most of the time, though i have on occassion used only condoms at times i felt i was infertile. i am a "cafeteria catholic" that rejects the teachings of the church on sexual morality, yet havingabortionwuldbothermealot.

Well, I'm prolife, but I'm certainly not "antichoice". Assuming that you're referring to a woman's right to abortion, I do support that right. Your first paragraph describes my stance on abortion pretty well too.

I don't think legislation will ever change, so I have never understood the Right's one issue voting practices. It seems there are things we could do as a nation to support women that would lessen the circumstances of abortion.

However, I cannot understand the logic of pro choicers. I had a friend who was staunch pro choice, claiming that it is not life until it is born. However, when she had a miscarriage she was devastated. She was too hurt for me to confront her on her inconsistency, but it was there. If it was not a life pre-birth it should have mattered no more than any other waste lost from the body. But it did, and I believe that is the anger of most pro-choicers. Deep down they know what they are destroying, but they will be damned if they will be dictated to by an outsider.

I was myself the moment after birth, and I was the same the moment before. Once that egg was fertilized, I was me, and NO ONE has the right to take me away from me.

I guess I am pro life, but I don't think one can win this battle of the minds through legislation. I think there is need for a little more self examination on both sides.

How would I know what "everybody's" opinion on this issue is? I was born and baptized Catholic, but never made it to my First Communion, so I don't know how much influence that had on my attitude. I am pro-life, partly because there is no real excuse for a woman to allow herself to become pregnant in this day and age. If the pill had been around when I was young, I would never have had my daughter, but I knew that the price for my screwing aroung was that I would likely have children that I, and I alone would have to support.

Well, I'm pro-choice, mainly because I don't think it's at all relevant whether you think abortion is right or wrong. It's a private issue of someone else's medical condition, and therefore it is between them and their doctor. It drives me nuts when I hear people going on about their morality and how everyone should have to live according to it.

I am pro choice. Abortion is not for me but who am I to tell you that you can't do it. I see it as a medical procedure, (some may see that as a cold way to view it but...) that is a personal choice. I think that it is so horrible when women are walking into a clinic and people are picketing and yelling nasty things at them. What right do they have to judge a person on one of their worst emotional days ever! That so infuriates me. I say if its your body it is solely your decision.....!

Hardly, Most people on this site are a bunch of do what feels good kind of group.
Abortion is Abortion, Twist how you want, rationalize it how you think , the fact is that regardless of when it can survive outside the womb it is a life and has to be destroyed hence the word Abortion. look up the word my dear.
That is what you are fighting to have remain a right.
To kill a life.
I am fighting for people to step up to the plate and take responsibility for what they do instead of the quick fix, because that is what this society is all about. a quick fix.
I am saying regardless of why it came to be it is and should be allowed to live.
and do not try the rape, incest thing with me because my dear, that is less then 1% of reasons Abortions are done today.
Look into it and I can provide websites as well as material if you need proof.

It's not as simple as people seem to think. there is no good solution to the abortion question. sometimes it's neccessary, always it's sad. People should think before just grabbing a slogan and going with it.
