Yes, that is exactly right. You control people by convincing them that they need you. The Church has the key to eternal life, and to get it, you need to confess your sins and "repent". But if you could just repent once and be done, you wouldn't have to keep coming back every week, putting more money in the offering plate to make up for all the bad things you did the previous week. So they define having sexual thoughts, which absolutely everyone does, as being "sinful".
You'd think somebody would figure that out eventually, but here's the thing: they actually LIKE that it's a sin. It makes them feel "naughty"; it's a turn-on. The fact that lust is a sin is partly responsible for the world's over-population: if sex were merely something you do when you feel like it, there wouldn't be nearly as much of it.

rong. Not all religion are like that. Sex is a word that pertains to having sexual intercourse w/o love. Religion is there to turn sex into the words Making and Love - sexual intercourse between 2 consenting adults who have deep feelings for each other.
I don't know the practice of other religion, but some of the religion I know, prepares an individual for lovemaking emotionally, psychologically and spiritually.
Religion doesn't manipulate people, they discipline people. And it's through the discipline that people find meaning in making love.
And it's only called SIN if you are doing it with another person who is married or you're doing it without getting married first (it's a sin in some religion).

People can turn the sex and religion thing into whatever they want. All the bible teaches is that is sin to have sex before marriage (fornication) and its a sin to have sex with anyone other than your spouse (adultery). I do know that there are people who thinks sex is only for fertilization but some also (more of your old timer religious people) see sex as some unpleasent bad thing. But the question is will you believe what, society, the, bible, or "religious" people says about sex?

It's not the sex that religion views as a sin, but the abuse thereof. God Himself, advised man to 'go forth and multiply.' So obviously, He hadn't anything against it. But religions do frown upon the practice of deviant--for instance, bestiality or necrophily--sexual behavior, and most prefer that one copulate heterosexually, else how shall they gain followers? That's pretty straightforward, isn't it?
As to the 'turning that joy into a sin' part of your question. . . reality has pretty much bummed the whole gig, if you really want to get right down to it. What with chlamidia and PID and resistant forms of Syphillis and gonnorhea, not to mention AIDS, promiscuous sex is just downright stupid, and self-destructive. So why do you worry that religions are downing unwise sex? Life itself will catch up with you if you enjoy it unwisely too often, or too long, or just with the one wrong partner.
Think about it.

We are made to serve God.
Which religions are you talking about that turn "joy into a sin"? Christianity does not turn joy into a sin. You are talking about carnal pleasure, not joy. Joy is one of the fruits of the spirit, and it is a gift one gets when surrendering one's life and will to God.
Christianity defends sex by defending the family. It is adultery and fornication that are sins--i.e., sex outside of marriage.
And what would religions be manipulating people to do, exactly?

Well, we were not MADE to enjoy sex. We enjoy sex because it is nature's way of perpetuating our species, as all animals do. No one MADE us unless you mean your parents.
That said sex can cause a potential problem with over population.
While I don't recognize the idea of "sin", humans can make tragic mistakes and uncontrolled and unprotected sex with unlimited births would be one such tragedy.

Religion is all about control. Manipulation. Forcing one world view on others. There is little truth and far less logic in it.
Just don't buy into it. Or if you require religion, simply find one that isn't as bigoted against human nature and reality as Christianity.

It is certainly not a sin in Judaism. There is no "original sin" in Judaism. Sex is not considered shameful, sinful or obscene. Although sexual desire comes from the the evil impulse, it is no more evil than hunger or thirst.

well i have always believe that when you take a girls virginity there is blood and with blood there is a ocvenant created by that or a spiritual agreement so taking that away with out giving her the love connection and security of marriage is well decietful and selfish. after marriage the marriage bed is free and clear to enjoy all aspects of each other and your sexuality so i dont see much control there personally

No. God designed a woman and a man to be joined in marriage, and sex was designed to be held in that context.
God desires to protect us from danger, not ruin our fun. Stop and think about what you're saying. Sex outside of marriage results in unwanted pregnancies, broken hearts, regret, all sorts of harmful things that can affect a person's life. God ways are always perfect.
