Jewish Zizou,
As far as I know, Pharoah was the first to persecute Hebrews. But you are right, the devil has been trying to eliminate them for centuries upon centuries. No worries. Jesus will return and kill the enemies of Israel; Zechariah 14. It's pretty neat right now, because there are a lot of enemies of Israel, and they are pretty outspoken. Well, God makes it clear that whoever is against Israel; He will make an enemy out of them. He will gather all the enemies of Israel together and kill them all. Isn't that something! God always keeps His word.

We Jews have encountered many acts of anti-Semitism and we still are. Hitler (YS) was human but a cruel and evil almost like a devil. We have been persecuted even since our forefthaers existed. We are not the devil and never will be. We managed to survive and always will survive if we have faith in God. In the inquisitions and the holocaust we had faith and we were something so we were persecuted. We managed to survive because of our faith in God. The hatred towards us does not make us the devils but rather those who are racist to any race not just Judaism. If you become racist to any religion or the like, think of what you act like.

Of course not, look at all the pogroms - hell there was one in York in the 12th Century.

Usually they had more to do about hatred of the outsider and envy of their (usually imaginary) prosperity, but linking them to the devil usually made things easier and simpler for the simpler-minded folk.

BTW I sincerely doubt Hitler thought the Jews were anything to do with the devil. He prided himself on being a "scientific" anti-semite who reckoned that there were measurable race differences between Jews and Aryans. Differences that made Jews at once dangerously inferior and yet cunningly powerful.

After all, if he thought Jews were something to do with the devil, surely converted Jews, of whom there were many sincere people in Europe, ought to have been OK.

They were murdered just like the practicing and the non-observant Jews because of their alleged racial characteristics.

No, Zizou, it actually goes back to Medieval times. The Christians forbade the act of 'money lending' to anyone who was Christian, because they believed that usury was 'dirty' and relegated it to the Jews. 'Dirty', but necessary. It was the Jewish moneylenders who largely financed the Crusades. However, a combination of religious fervor and a desire to eliminate the huge debts which they had incurred caused them to take their ire out on, first the moneylenders, and then the Jewish population in general. A good excuse was to label them as 'Christ killers' and 'children of Satan'.

Unfortunately, such Medieval thinking still exists among some people.

No, The Spanish and french inquisition wasn't just about the Jews, it was anyone who wasn't christian, or spoke out against christian practices and beliefs. Jewish ppl have been persecuted for as long as there have been Jewish ppl to persecute.

Let's just go the whole way back to Jewish slavery. What's with this "devil" business to begin with. I've never heard of such an animal.

In your second paragraph, incidentally, you should replace the word "was" with "were".
