For some reason that bothers me alot. I cant stand it when my foods get all mixed together. My rice needs to stay away from my peas or there is gonna be trouble.

In plate presentation at most restaurants food is usually touching each other in some type of overlapping manner to give the plat a better eye-appeal in some cases the food is stacked on the plate, yet again touching, to give the presentation height. So touching food items on your plate is quite acceptable.
And yet some items don't play well when dishing plates in this way just because some items will leech their juices to discolor other foods on the same plate..so segregation is required in this instance sometime to the point of confinement in a separate side dish.
Touching or not on your plate at home may be a personal preference and is okay for some and not so acceptable for others. I prefer either method and it usually depends on the food I'm serving at that particular time...

I'm a absolutelty not touch anything type of person. I don't need a divided plate though cause i make everything divided on my plate all by myself! Have been since i can ever remember! I always get picked on for it and I hate the saying "it all goes to the same place" cause i say "who cares-i do -it all tastes different until it gets there! and that's the way i prefer it! Sorry I'm picky-usually if it touches something else i don't eat that bite!

(loves yahoo answers, lol yay now i can let the whole world know my dinner plate preferences!!!) o.O;
my answer is, it depends....
thanksgiving turkey type of dinner where everything just "Goes" then sure i'll mix in turkey with the stuffing, and throw in all the gravy'tatoes ^_~ that is if i get tired of deciding which to eat next or get bored with the taste of each thing by itself.......
o.O;; but dinner food must never touch desert food of course! (there better be a seperate plate for that piece of pie!)
also if i have cake and ice cream for my bday, o.O the cake must never touch the ice cream! or it will be forever contaminated!!! XP
breakfast sandwiches, i'm against them ^_~ i cant stand breakfast food combined into one sandwich/omellette/burrito whatever, give me the eggs, the sausage, and toast seperate, it's the only way
but anyhoo before i continue rambling further... ya ^_~ it just depends, i usually don't care unless it will affect the texture/taste, then i'm ultra picky

I'm a "who cares" type of person. It doesn't matter to me if the food is touching each other or not.

Definately the "who cares" person..! Unlike most little kids, I used to mash everything together...of course, I don't do that now, but I still don't mind if it touches. Have actually discovered some interesting taste combos that way..!

It depends on what I am eating . . . raviolis and apple sauce touching one another are fine. So are potatoes and corn, but not meatloaf touching the potatoes and corn. I mix up some things on purpose -- smoked oysters and yogurt are good together. I think it is a personal taste thing.

If one of them is runny and ruins the flavor I try to avoid that. If I eat at a Chinese buffet and the sweet&sour sauce runs into the General Gau and comingles that kind of makes both taste incorrect.

I 'd prefer a divided plate. I don't like all my food mixed up.

Doesn't bother me unless the tastes don't mix (example: ketchup and veggies or something). But if they go well together, then so be it. I actually get creative and mix unusual things just to get a partyin' taste in my mouth.
