Because men were created to think and act differently than women do. Women tend to think and act with more emotion than men. That's a quality found in great nurturers (mothers). Throughout history, men have always had to be strong in order to be good providers and protecters. It's men's logical thinking and stubborness that contributes to making many of us great fathers. It's primal instinct.

OK Britt its hard to generalize But It seems that guys some times don't know what to expect I mean 20 years ago a guy had to be strong never cry never show anger in front of their partner and never cry now a guy is supposed to be in touch with his so called feminine side he should cry he should hug he should vent if he feels the need he should openly show his affection and then again his woman may want him to be strong tough and yes as much as I hate the word MACHO Is it any wonder in this age of equality that some poor guys cant show or aren't game enough to let their guard down and show emotion . Yes some times they are just stubborn but I think they are also living up to what they were taught by there fore fathers be strong don't whine and above all be a man ,

It goes back to caveman days. Women are good at breaking down and men are good at being the glue that holds everything together. Since women instinctually turn to men for comfort or protection, we create an image of being a stronghold. Yes, this is a sexist answer, but it's a caveman thing. You'll find that many of the reasons we, as humans, do what we do is because of primal instinct, which is itself sexist. Women are weak, so men are strong. Women talk about everything in the world, so men only talk about important things that affect them or someone they love. Women act upon their emotions and rationalize their actions later while men rationalize their actions before acting upon them. And so on and so forth.

I'm not stubborn when it comes to showing ...sob, sob...emotions. I am just a big, fluffy marshmallow of emotion. Now as for all the other guys out there : I have no idea why they withhold their emotions.

They have a "macho" image that has been perpetrated through the ages and for them so be seen as vulnerable is less than "Manly" and how much influence their parent or siblings had on them could also factor in.

Sometimes they don't want to be hurt even more. I'm usually open, but when I get really depressed, I don't let anyone help me. I think it's because I don't want someone to make me even more sad. I know it doesn't make sense, but that's the way I am.
