GRANNY has the correct information, but can anyone elaborate?

I did not need your help with homework, and I am sorry that many of you found the question so difficult that you chose to be unkind. Insurance companies call anything that is not ‘man made’ an act of God. So the bible is more specific.

Some of you gave very thoughtful answers. Thanks for that. I appreciate it.

The parting of the RED SEA was definitely an act of God. It was not a disaster from a Hebrew/Christian perspective. He saved his people – his faithful ones. God is justice.

3 ways to know that it an Act of God and not natural disaster:

1) God always forewarned his servants when he would act.
2) The act of God would be selective, not random deaths.
3) The way of survival was always provided.

(Scriptures would be those that give the account of every act of God - flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, every time that Israel was taken by their enemies because of apostasy, Jerusalem's fall in 70 CE or AD, and soon to be Armageddon.

Definition of "Acts of God" (from my sons Sunday school book)
>those events which are labelled ‘creation,’ but which do not originate something from noththings; they, instead, shape, adapt, combine, or transform existing materials into other things.

example : the flood :- simple rain was transformed into flood waters ; Genesis 6:1 - 9:17

example : God created Adam ; Gen 1:26,27

example : Moses parted the river : Ex. 14:28

At no place in the bible is there any mention that God created horrible weather just becasue. There was always a reason for each act. It was planned and deliberate.

Natural Disasters
are not planned, they are not deliberate.
Definition: natural disaster caused by natural forces: a disaster caused by natural forces rather than by human action, e.g. an earthquake, tornado, tidal wave etc.

An act of God the examples would be: Parting of the Red Sea, Sodom and Gomorrah, even the 7 plagues of Egypt. A Natural Disaster would be Tornados, Earthquakes, Volcanos, etc.
But don't forget that even the so called Natural Disasters are caused by the Natural Law that God put into effect. Examples being death, illness, and those mentioned above. :)

I hope you agree that God is in COMPLETE control of the world and nature.

Was Hurricane Katrina a natural disaster? I don't believe so. God controls all such things. Do you want to question Him? Go ahead.

Was the parting of the Red Sea a natural disaster? No. It was an act of God.

When someone throws themselves in front of a moving vehicle to commit suicide, is that a choice? Yes.

An act of God and a natural disaster are EXTREMELY close and related and might even be the same. God will use nature to do as He pleases, whether to give us rain, or to cause an earthquake to shake the hearts of people to wake them up from their unbelief.

At the same time, you must include Satan in the picture because it's not as simple as you think. Satan has limited power, but he does have power. Do not forget what he did to Job and what he can do.

an "act of God" is generally an insurance term for a natural disaster, something that occurs without direct human interference. A natural disaster could be the work of God or Satan or one of their servants.

A natural disaster is when you have a flood or the like or an earth quake. But an Act of GOD is when people of religion are fighting over who has the biggest god. 12 millon killed back in WW2 all for god.. That is an act of god. Hitler cleanzing the world.

If it is anything to do with GOD or Religion it means death.

Religion = WAR..
WAR = Act Of God.

ACT of GOD is only another man-made term, as is natural disaster. It is a way of saying someone or something is not responsible for a certain event. Are you planning on selling insurance?

Actually the words an act of God is a saying that is put in legal documents. I know this because I work in a law firm. It's also used in the insurance industry, to let them out of responsibility for certain things that can happen.

a natural disaster is a subset of an act of god so to speak. an act of god is any event that just happened for no good reason and you couldn't prevent it from happening either. a power outage caused by lightning strike might be one of those. a natural disaster is an act of god that causes serious damage and injury to many people and millions of dollars worth of material goods. does that make sense?
