The best way to prepare a child for a lifetime of learning (through and beyond school) is to instill in them a sense of wonder and a desire to question.
Expose your child to as many live experiences as you can and talk to her constantly in questions about what she is seeing and feeling, smelling and tasting.
"What is inside this banana peel? How did it get there? Dose it taste salty or sweet?"
"How does a bumble bee make that noise? What is he saying to you? Do you think other bees understand him?"
You get the idea. Just keep her wondering and she will motivate herself to find out the answers.

Don't worry about teaching her too much academics. Your child will be learning these things in kindergarten. You wouldn't learn German before you took a German class right? A lot of parents worry about this. They feel their child should know the curriculum before they enter kindergarten to give them a "one up." These children usually end up bored. Social and emotional readiness are more important than academic readiness.
She should have lots of interactions with other children, one on one and in groups several times a week. Since she is in preschool, she already has a head start developing social and emotional skills.
She should learn a few letter sounds and numbers. You want her to have the basic knowledge that this symbol represents this sound (number). Play "I spy" with her. "I spy something that starts with the letter "mmmmm." You can have a flash card with the symbol for her to recognize. Play some counting games with her. Count how many cars go by, count the dolls, or count out how many forks you will need for dinner. Keep it fun. If she feels you are trying to teach her, she may resist.
These are some basic skills that you daughter should have before starting school: hold a pencil in an orthodox way, recognize her name, write her name (upper case first letter followed by lower case), know 8 basic colors, cut with scissors, dress herself, take care of bathroom needs. I agree with Lovey. Work on her reading, time-telling skills, counting and basic addition. You can turn it into a game so that she associates learning with fun. Make sure you lavish her with praises and treat her when she makes any major breakthroughs so she gets excited about learning. And really, as long as they don't start too far behind, kids her aged are excited about school because they want to be big kids, and going to school is what big kids do. Let her pick out school supplies so that even that is fun. Celebrate her artwork and homework she brings home by putting it on display on the fridge. Very few kids start out hating school. That's something that has to be taught (and unfortunately disliking school usually is a result of having a teacher who doesn't understand you or is mean, or having other kids treat you badly). But don't go overboard -- there is no reason to teach a kindergartener algebra unless you want her to get picked on mercilessly.

I think all kids between the ages of 2-5, need to know. How to share, need to be able to socialize with kids their age, should be potty trained, and most games and activites should be as educational as possible, hope I helped you some.

Encourage but DON'T push! Expose her to lots of books. Read to her, play math games. Make trips to the library, zoo, and other places young children enjoy. Make learning fun....and she will love it. The results I've had are children who love school and learning.
