You cannot love one more than the other and show it, you must not forget that kittens grow also. Velvet will obviously be jealous to start with but she will adapt over time providing you share your love and affection. If you do not Velvet may leave you and go and find someone who will love them, this is quite common. Becareful and really you have to admit it is not fair on velvet.

Velvet needs to learn to share your affection. Your not doing her any favors by not teaching her this. Start doing this by loving them both at the same time, it may take awhile but soon Velvet will learn that kitty is no threat to her, and she doesn't have to compete for your attention.

congratulations for your new kitten! if you are finding it hard to decide weather to give more atintion to it or to give it to your older cat then that is simple. we have had lots of cats: first maggie and buttercup then buttercup died....then we got another cat latter called emma.... then she died....then we got another cat who is called princess... she has not died yet... and then she got pregnant, she had 2 litters and with her first all the kittens that she had got verry scared of maggie who didnt like the fact verry much that there were more cats in her teritory...we kept the kittens away from maggie at first because she would scare them... then with princess's 2ond litter she had 5 kittens and we had the same sittuation......now we have 3 cats..: ginger princess and maggie and they are all lovely.....now maggie will cathch mice for ginger for him to play with.......we have given them the same amount of attition because as well as your cat it seem she gets verrry jelous...so does ginger...all our cats get the same amount of atention and we love them all the same.....they all have a few fights once in a while but they get on most of the time.

You shouldn't give all your love to the kitten just because its cute,
it will turn into a cat one day!! then what, love them both the same they will also learn to love each other give them time.
Good luck.

Love for your cats isn't mutually exclusive, it can be hard to pay attention to the older animal when a younger one is brushing around you. Just show them you care.
