Certainly there are prophets in the church today. But there are 2 types of prophetic word. Forthtelling and foretelling. Forthtelling is the usual kind of prophetic word spoken in the church today, which is much along the lines of encouragement and affirmation to the church or perhaps confirming a direction the leadership of the church had been praying about. A lot of people have this gift.
Foretelling on the other hand is what the prophets of the Old Testament were doing and people with this gift are much rarer in the church today although they are around.
We have a woman in our church who is recognized as a prophetess who foretells and forthtells and has been proven to be almost 100% accurate. She is treasured by us because we know that through her we can clearly hear the voice of God.

Jesus was clear, when he said that later on so many will claim the prediction. That means he was the last messengers. But u have to know that there is a big deference between prophets and saints. Prophet usually comes in new rules and attitudes, where the saint is a messenger from God to give mercy to people....

What a great question!

I think we do have prophets among us --and we tend not to tolerate them all that well.

As you point out, these are the folks who tend to point out issues that make us uncomfortable--where the money is being spent, what we are doing for the homeless, in what ways we are inconsistent, hypocritical, in denial, resistant, too comfortable, not willing to take a risk (or too willing to take a risk).

I think what we typically do is try to minimize and trivialize these outspoken ones -- sometimes by ridicule or joking or rolling of the eyes. If we are wise, we discern well who speaks the prophetic voice and listen with our hearts.

How would your church react if it found a prophet among your congregation??

We have many in many Churches --- A Prophet does not have to tell of the FUTURE..

Any person who spreads THE PROPHETIC WORD is a PROPHET!

Utter and total panic - a true prophet would be capable of revealing the truth and no existing church could survive such a revelation without instant collapse.

modern day doesn't deal well with such people...what about prophetesses? I think that would cause an even stronger reaction, just because of the person being a woman.

I understand what you are saying about walking a different path..they don't live their lives in a comfort zone, they are sensitive to what GOD would have them do, and they are "hard core"...you couldn't break em in their spiritual determination if you dumped a ton of bricks right on em..

There are no true prophets. They're all fakers or self-deluded.

If a real prophet ever came to any church, it would be a first.

If the prophet was real and coincided with the bible, I think my church would listen to him/her.
