The best parallel would be a human relationship. When you are so in love with someone, they are all that matters to you - well, in a manner of speaking. But, as an individual, you are also growing and so the relationship becomes dynamic. Your growth and the many persons and situations that you encounter along the way contributes to the relationship's growth and you both become better, happier individuals.
The term 'worship' has many connotations. There are the Buddhists, he Muslims, the Catholics, each with their own forms of worship. But they also spend their time learning scholarly things, building ties with others, building communities, creating empires (lol!).. Personally, I think the whole point of worship is to show gratitude to whoever our God may be and give justice to this life that we are living - make it the best that it can be. If you look at it that way, a lot of things does matter - fulfilling relationships, achievements, etc, I mean, if you created something, you would want it to turn out awesome, right? I believe it's the same way with us. We worship not only by praying (as in literally) but also by living a life that is full and exciting and bespeaks of our God as someone wonderful and truly wise.
As for eternity, nobody's ever been really back to tell the whole story (at least I've never met one) but hey, the only common thing said about it is that there will be no more suffering. If that's true, then worshipping the God of our belief for eternity may not be so bad. :)
Hope this helped. :)

I have a friend who believes that. She was raised in a religious community where property is held in common. The church members don't take part in secular government (i.e., vote or run for office) or anything like that, because to them, such things don't matter. Clothing doesn't matter, so they wear plain homespun outfits, everyone looking pretty much alike, with the women wearing headcoverings. They don't value higher education. Only God matters to them. But I'm Catholic, and think that some secular things do matter, such as charity, making money, improving oneself, studying, and getting ahead in life. Yes God is important--which is why He gives us the good sense to take care of ourselves.

I think that you might be surprised by the number of people who ask a much more important question. Far more important, to them, than the existence of God. Such as "Where is my next meal coming from?".

One wonders what that could possibly mean. But if I took it as a simple statement, then I assume the person means they have no interest in other "mundane" things, e.g., their education, children's education, an honest day's work, their health, justice, other people's well-being while here on earth, etc. And if this is the case, then they are relatively useless members of my society. And by the way, asking questions on Yahoo should also be irrelevant.

Have you ever considered the fact that you are here on earth in order to grow intellectually, emotionally and spiritually? That all of us in one way or another are on a path towards greater understanding and spiritual evolution?
God is important to a great many people. Equally, gods and goddesses are important to a great many people. Equally again, some don't care one way or the other.
Live your life and move towards what makes you happy and fulfilled. If god is a part of that, so be it. If not, it doesn't matter. All that does is your continued willingness to learn, grow and experience all that life and this earth have to offer.

Of course, because everything matters to God, so it matters to me too. Why do you think it's such a wasted life to spend it worshipping God? I'm very happy with my life as it is.

And that is the attitude that brings about suicides and suicide bombings and all sorts of crazy fanatical things.
I thought that even the Christian/Abrahimic god wanted humans to live their lives to the fullest, to be happy, even if the religions stipulate that happiness is found most in worshiping him--how does it worship a god who created you to kill yourself or live your life with less than a full enjoyment of whatever it is that makes you happy? Shouldn't the things that make you happy also make a loving god happy, as long as they don't harm others?
Man, ya'll are so confusing.

Everything that we do revolves around our worship of God. We should do 'all things for God's glory." 1 Corinthians 10:31
So, does nothing else matter? yes and no -
Since he created us, we owe everything to him.
But, we must do everything in a way that would bring honor to him. Which means that as a spouse, our treatment of our spouses would be loving and kind, etc, same goes as parents and children, and so forth - to every aspect of life.
So, everything matters, and should always be done in a way that HONORS God. Those who say one thing and do the opposite do NOT bring honor to God.

Well look at what God/Jesus has done for us. If it weren't for him we wouldn't even be here right now. If Jesus hadn't died on the cross for our sins then we wouldn't be given the choice between Heaven and Hell. We are all that matters to him so why not give him the same in return.
