Southeastern Asians and Asian Indians seem to be more educated than their western counterparts. Maybe they take education more seriously and it is stressed more in their family and society. What do you think?

Parents don't make kids study, teachers give up on them, and students don't care. That is the problem. When a kid wants to learn, in this country they can.

The US education system is adequate by and large. Top half of the schools are comparable to any other country. The bottom half of the schools just dragged the average down, for many reasons.

Your hypothesis of why students do not do well in the US education system is a different question. The two ethinic groups that you describe do have the elements that make the difference in their academic achievement. However, those are not the only element. For example, teachers in the US are not respected by their students in the US who are unrully. Teachers in the US had to spend more time on discipline, motivating students in learning and doing their homework than in teaching the subject matter.

I think the US educational system is very inadequate. We have a lot of catching up to do in the math and sciences in particular.

Obviously not, given the number of US students that need remediation in college before they can take college level courses.

no, the us has just hit a plateau in its learning ability curve; the west is no longer limiting the abilities of other cultures and thus they are having the ability to catch up to us/slightly gain
