First make sure that if you ask this question, you actually know to calculate this value correctly.

Next, recognize that this is a tool for assessing degree of overweight in people who are otherwise of normal (not bodybuilding) musculature. Or for stratifying patients into groups for the purpose of evaluating clinical research data.

Overweight, in the above sense, involves BMI values of between 25 and 30, and over 30 this is defined as obesity. Over a value of 40, the term used is "morbid obesity", and over 50, the term "super-obese" is sometimes used.

This needs to be taken in context. A 250 pound body builder who is 6 feet tall is probably in fantastic physical condition and has an extremely low percentage body fat. His BMI, however, is 34, which when taken out of context would label him as obese!

Similarly, your BMI at 19.5 is just a number. Without an overall assessment, I cannot comment on whether or not you are healthy. You probably are not very large, but you could be thin and healthy or thin and in very poor health.

Adding a final thought, and this is for you or for whoever reads this; preoccupation with weight is a psychologically unhealthy position. If you are a generally thin person who is using an internet forum for external psychological validation regarding weight or physical appearance, you are showing warning signs of being in a very unhealthy place. Strongly consider counselling.

A BMI number above 25 may indicate the person is overweight; a BMI below 15 may indicate the person has an eating disorder; a number above 30 suggests the person is obese.

Guess you are just right.

The normal range for BMI is 20-25. So, according to this, you are underweight.

Take note that the BMI is foolproof - you can have a BMI >30 and not be overweight, even though this is in the obese range, it depends a lot on your build, whether or not you work out etc.

No, you are not chubby. Like I said with your friend, BMI is not a good indication of whether you would be suitable for modelling. HTH : )

Nope. You are just fine according to BMI. 25 or higher starts to raise concern.
