other than a brand for dogs. Would I be able to use regular human shampoo on my dog or do I need a dog only type? I have a golden retriever.

I would like to know only because at this time I dont have dog shampoo(which is what I usually use) but my dog was playing under my pine tree and he has sap all over, so I need to bathe him now. What can I use as soap/shampoo?
Thanks to all who have already answered.

If your golden got tree sap in his coat. Try peanut butter!! This y works really well to take the sap out.....To help cut the pine stickies, use Dawn or aother grease cutter dish soap..Add 1/4 cup of any vinegar or lemon juice to the last gallon of rinse water ..
You can use any human bar soap or shampoo if you rinse with the lemon or vinegar mixture..It takes away the nice sweet smell of shampoo, but it restores the skin to the proper PH for canine skin..
Otherwise you are risking the dry skin dandruff or itching..

I would just use a dog shampoo only, human shampoos may not be as effective as dog shampoos. If you are worried about price,I am sure there are some discountable pet stores you could check out.

Never use human shampoo on dogs. The ph is wrong. Also with a golden you are going to want some kind of creme rinse to detangle that long hair.

omg. this is funny. i hate dog shampoo it sucks. i use human shampoo on my dog and it works amazing. try V05. it smells sooo good and lasts for days. try not to put more conditioner than shampoo though. there skin gets dried out easily.

Until you get dog shampoo, use baby shampoo but dilute it with water.
