an old sock with long grain rice works great. I work in a retirement home and I have seen the nursing staff use this. heat in the microwave for a minute or desired time, make sure you tie the end so the rice doesnt fall out. And dont listen to the useless and heartless people that have no emotion. For they have no clue what real pain is. One day they will have real pain, and then we can say to them, stop your whinning. Take care and I wish you well

the answer about long rice is a good one. You can also substitute with dried beans. By using a piece of material like a pocket, fold the material over it and pin. Then microwave for 30 to 45 seconds and the hot pad will stay warm for 20 to 30 minutes.

My son has hydrocephalus so he get migraines all the time. So when he was in the hospital the nurse wet a wash clothe. Put it in the microwave for one minute, next put it in a zip lock bag and wrapped that in a towel so it would not be too hot. It kept warm for an hour or so.

I made myself a wheat bag........get the raw wheat from a pet store and wash it and oven dry it for several hours on a very low setting, moving it around to make sure it dries thoroughly. Then simply make a bag. Add the wheat when it is cool and sew up. This can be heated in a microwave for no more than 4 mins and the heat will last for a very long time.

Hot water bottles are pretty cheap nowadays. I would get one of those (you don't have to fill it all the way up if you want it flatter) and wrap a moist towel around it. Sometimes moist heat works better than dry heat.

We used to use the whiskey bottles that were concave to form to your face with a towel over them...Of course the whiskey is gone, and hot water was added...
I'm sure you wouldn't care if one drank the whiskey before, huh? tee hee...
