I used to smoke and quit cold turkey 4 months ago. I am still dreaming of cigarettes and crave them every day. Very badly. I manage not to smoke still.
How does one manage the stress in life after giving up the one thing that took you away from life for a moment to chill out. It feels like nothing is good enough except for choclate, which makes you fat. how can i calm that beast inside me ?

I started running or doing some heavy cardio to help out. It kept the weight gain down. Deep breathing through the craving helps. I also found that dark chocolate helps and is not quite as bad for you as most candy bars. Licorice is also pretty good. I have heard that things like pure cinamon and ginger are pretty good to curb cravings. Good luck to you. Remember--if you can make it for 3 minutes during the craving, it will go away.

Exercise but the problem is retraining yourself. I quit cold turkey 3 years ago. For awhile I chewed sugarless gum and stoped drinking coffee as I associated it with cigarettes. If I had cravings during the day I would eat carrot or celery sticks. Eventually I got over the cravings. Even if I smell a cigarette now I have no desire for it.

It just takes will power and being determined not to go back.

I disagree with the person who told you to keep God out of it. God is truly amazing and He will help you through anything. I never done any of those things you said so you can say that I don't understand what you're going through... But I've seen it happening everywhere. You are truly amazing that you want to stay sober, keep fighting!! People aren't the same when they are high or drunk, they do stupid things that could lead to a horrible life. Find new hobbies or take a class. Talk with your family and ask them for help even if they may not be that supportive. But above all, believe in God and His powers. He is the reason we are all here today and He can help you... He will help. Pick up a Bible and read. It truly helps. Stay dedicated to him and pray... You will become better. Keep your head up especially on sad days and remember, someone out there always has it worse than you, at least you are making a difference by becoming sober. Keep at it!! :)

Congrats! As a former 22 year-long smoker (2packs/day), I've been smoke-free for 3 1/2 years now. Your cravings should be gone anyday now. Believe it or not, what helped me the most was eating pistachio peanuts. I don't know if it was the fact I was doing something with my hands or if there is something chemical in them that cut my cravings, but they did work.

Also, get out your calculator and figure out how much money you'll save over the next fifty years...then multiply your answer by 8.74 to see the amount you'd have if you invested the same money with compounded interest!

That should help you.

Good for you!!!! Keep it up. You will think about a cigarette every minute of every day for a whole year. Then after a year, you think about it every 2 minutes. I started exercising and enhaling deeply when I worked out. Therefore, I never wanted to start again.

If you have a lot of anxiety from not smoking, anything the doctor gives you usually will be a controlled substance, like xanex or something else.

try praying to God to relieve you of your cravings. Anytime you have a craving go take a walk or do something around the house that needs to be done. Snack on some healthy food like carrots or salad.

Hmmm, I have 1 ciggerette left and am wondering if I should get up and buy more. Buy chewing tobacco, it might take a bit of the edge off. No coffee or beer for you though.
