I think it has something to do with the correlation between thinking positive thoughts and being able to see positive options in everything, and vice versa. If you think about something positively, the energy that you bring to bear on it will be positive, whether it's a project for work, homework, raising your children, etc. However, if you think, "Oh, I guess I have to do THIS now," after having put it off because it's something that you think won't work for some reason or something that you associate with negative emotions/memories, then the energy that you will be using will be negative, and it will also be less efficient and less effective. You will spend more time trying to avoid whatever it is than you would spend on getting it done with a positive attitude. Probably the best example from my life is laundry or hand washing pots and pans that can't go in the dishwasher. I absolutely hate doing either, so I put them off until they are a bigger job than they would have been, and I always feel grumpy and disgruntled when I have to do it, even though it would be more managable and get done more quickly if I did it right away and had a positive attitude about it. It's really difficult to change your attitude about things, though, and think positively about things that you already have negative thoughts/memories about, so that's probably why people are always saying to approach new situations positively--humans love to get stuck in ruts, and thinking positively during new experiences makes the rut more likely to be a good one than a bad.
I hope I explained this well. It's kind of jumbled up in my head as something I know but have a difficult time expressing.

You ever had a day when one thing happens, and you think "oh no what else can go wrong," or "yeah, baby it's my lucky day." Then good stuff or bad stuff continues to happen to you. Another example is when a quarterback turnover the ball to the other team, or misses their receiver completely, and then they can't recover for the entire game. That's what the positive and negative thoughts idea comes from.
I believe the mind is capable of a great many things that most people would consider dumb luck or sheer coincidence. I've had some success with mediation.
Digging Out
When you are having a bad day, visualize yourself in a hole, you can see the sky in the opening at the top, but the hole is so big that you can't reach it. Let yourself feel all you would in that situation, the goal of this exercise is not to deny how you feel but to experience it and let it go. Now, look around the bottom of the hole, there's a step do you see it.
Step on that step, and then the next, until you reach the top of the hole. Stand at the top of the stairs, and look around at the grass, sky, breath the clean air, feel the sun, enjoy being alive.
Now climb out of the hole, and join the world. Now, open your eyes. Anytime you need to feel free, just imagine being back in the open air.
It works for me, but then again I'm happiest outside. I imagine arriving at the place you're happiest at will work just as well.

You have addressed the very cornerstone upon which the universe is run. "Like attracts like." Consequently, if you put out a positive approach to everything, then the energetic response will be a positive one. The same thing in reverse. Negative energy attracts a negative response.
The proof of this exists in everyone's life. If you are a street prostitute, the chances of you knowing, calling friend and socializing with a CEO of a major corporation, are slim to none. You are more likely to know other prostitutes and people in the sex trade. So the idea of opposites attracting is simply not the case.
The problem with energetic response is that often we are not fully aware of what we put out there. Often we metaphorically shoot ourselves in the foot because of what's happening on a subconscious level. Everything from our childhood impacts on how we respond and move in this world. If you've experienced a difficult background, you might "want" to put out only positive energy but behave against that motivation because of negative expectations. Therefore the answer to your question is, you must do some work, dig deep and identify your negative experiences and responses and do what's necessary to eradicate them so that you can, in fact, move forward positively.
Socrates was correct when he said, "The unexamined life is not worth living." Examine first then change what you need to change so that you can reach your goal of positive awareness and action.

Energy is energy. Positive and negative as realities, do not exist. But it is true that we form our reality by our thoughts, beliefs, emotions and expectations. Thought brings its own, as an apple tree will only produce apples, not watermelons...
Improve your energy level by realizing that energy is infinite. Realize that there are laws of mind, just as there are laws of nature. If the basic pattern of your thought is negative, your life will tend to be cluttered with negative events; if your pattern is positive, the opposite applies.
Seek what you want to know, and you will find it.

There is nothing stronger than the power of thought, the energy of the mind. Skyscrapers exist because they were thought into existence. Someone had to think of it before a whole team of men could go out and build one.
Do you believe that statement? If you are in doubt, everything you believe already in your life is there because you told yourself to believe.
You have the last word in all decisions you make in your life, even if you decide to let someone else call all the shots - you gave them control.
Allow yourself to exercise this control by bringing positive thought into your life. Banish negative thoughts as soon as you recognize them by CHANGING YOUR MIND - like whey you have to study for something and your mind wanders to what you did last night or about kissing your partner... and you have to keep hauling it back to the present to focus on the task at hand; studying for the test. And sometimes, with practice, it works.
You have the ability to choose what you think - exercise that ability, and it will grow stronger. Practice makes perfect! - or at least, better than worse.
Hope this helps.

These are not new concepts. Check out these verses in the Bible.
Proverbs 12:25 Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, But a good word makes it glad.
Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.
King Solomon knew that your thought life greatly affected your quality of life. Improve your energy level? Read the info at the link below.

Its pretty simple. . . .
If you do positive things, you will get a positive result.
If you do negative things, you will always get a negative result. Kind of like karma. What goes around comes around.
Negative people will encourage the energy of negativity.
Positive people will encourage the energy of positivity.
Now, which energy level are you trying to improve? If it is the positive energy, hang around positive people and watch how their good spirit rubs off on you.
If it is negative energy, just don't pray, don't educate yourself, and stare at t.v. everyday for the rest of your life. I guarantee you will not reap anything positive from doing those things.

It's not true. IF that were true, you and I would be gods!
Here's the truth of the matter:
Positive thoughts give you more courage, hope, strength, and faith.
Obviously, negative thoughts bring you down, depressed, discouraged, suicidal, etc.
If you have a huge exam tomorrow morning and you think positively about it, you will do far better on the exam because you're not stressed and full of anxiety.
And for the most part, I am sure that the devil brings most of the negative thoughts in our lives. He'll do anything to make us sin and feel crummy.

You can improve an energy level, like the statement said by thinking positively.I'm not saying that the person is not going to think anything wrong, but just think about the good in your life.

Sounds like vague b.s. to me- what this 'energy' so often referred to is actually supposed to BE is something never made clear.
Anyhow, the essential maxim "positive thoughts are good for you" isn't always true anyway. We need negative thoughts- that's why we have them! We need to know when our goals are unrealistic. We need ot know when things are going wrong. When someone treats you badly, you don't need to have 'positive thoughts' and carry on with thngs- you need to know how much of a **** they're being and stand up to them.
Besides, we need limits on our lives: we need to perceive things that are not ours in order to conceive of those that are. Try google searching "Deconstruction" for more of this kind of idea (and many more) all of which have really chnaged my perception of things.
