Public schools are free in every state.
Some children's parents don't have the money to send them to private or catholic schools. Also, sometimes a public school accommodates them better. Public schools are ALWAYS free.

Yeah, right, there's such a thing as a free lunch!
YOU pay for them if you live there, just as all Americans pay school taxes in the communities where they live (either as property taxes or higher rent, so the landlord can pay the property taxes on the property being rented).
They are "free" only to the extent that they are open to all children whose families wish for them to receive an education at public
(i. e., all of our) expense. (Otherwise, families have the option of private schools and tuition.)

They are free in Illinois also, just every other state has free public schools. It's been that way forever. Where have YOU been?

Uhhhh! Because they are public schools. Tax dollars paid by American citizens pay for those schools, so they are not exactly free.

Because then you can't tell them what to do. You are not paying, they can tell you all kinds of lies, or whatever they want. bottom line is, if they don't need your money, you don't have the power.
