I'm not personally christian. So the whole sin or not sin isn't a big issue with me. However, killing is wrong. It doesn't matter why it was done unless that person is going to kill you. Even in that case a person should disable them in another way besides killing. Also, going somewhere with the intention of killing is wrong. Going of to war is the same as going off with the intention to kill someone. It may be a matter of kill them before they kill you, but you went there with the same intentions as the person that is trying to kill you. Both people are wrong. If I were a christian I would say it was a sin, definitly.

I think that it depends. I would say that it is usually probably closer to self defense and thus not a sin, so long as you don't take joy in the killing. Those who thrill to the kill are necessary as part of a military unit, but they should also be watched carefully to make sure they don't go out of bounds and unnecessarily kill.

war is a lower thing and everything reduces in the time of war at the natural instincts of survival: kill or get killed. So no to kill in the war is not a sin because the only rule that has to be respected is kill or get killed. ex: Joan of Arc(catholic saint) and she killed people in the war, Stephen the Great(orthodox saint) he killed lots of muslims at war.

Not in righteous war. That is when you are defending the lives of your people or people of another country.

War is war. No one likes it, but if we didn't fight for our right to live & freedom, we would loose our life & freedom in our country.

Being a veteran of two wars, the only thing I worried about was killing the enemy before he killed me.

For me it is perfectly clear
Any killing is murder unless it is to defend your country from immediate attack, or to save another life at immediate risk.

Ask for forgiveness later.

Yes, absolutely. *Any* killing is wrong. Those who justify killing usually demonize their enemy through rhetoric, religious overtones and/or fear tactics. And I have no sympathy for those who say "it is their duty as a military person"...well, you knew that eventuality may arrive when you signed up...
