People ask this question all the time. And if you understood the science of evolution in the slightest way, you would be able to answer the question yourself.

There are still apes because humans and apes came from a recent common ancestor. Human DNA and some primate DNA is actually very similar. Depending on geography and environment, some evolved into humans and some into apes and some into other primates.

Keep in mind apes (and humans) are still evolving today. Do you expect every member of a species to evolve the same way? Maybe they would if they all lived under exactly the same conditions.

But there is even diversity among individual humans! Have you noticed that all people look different? Have you noticed that you can tell the difference between people of different nationalities? What would make apes die out anyway? If they can survive and reproduce the way they are, why would they evolve into humans?

You need to keep and open mind and think logically! If you want a more in-depth answer, read a book by Richard Dawkins.

From what I have read, I have not ever came across any thing stating that the process of evolution or Darwinism that stated man came from apes. It appears to me that belief (man came form apes) was perpetuated back at the time when the theory of evolution was first raised. But the theory itself never claimed man came from apes. So simply put, the belief that evolution claimed man came from apes is a myth that people have in many cases accepted as fact.

I just explained how your assumption that men came from apes is incorrect no more than 30 minutes ago....

EVOLUTION DOESN'T SAY THAT MAN CAME FROM APES!!!???

What evolution says is that MAN, along with apes, came from a previous ancestor.

It is just like us and our cousins. We did not come from our cousins, and they did not come from us, but we BOTH came from our grandparents...

Humans and other apes are descended from a common ancestor whose population split to become two (and more) lineages. The question is rather like asking, "If many Americans and Australians are descended from Europeans, why are there still Europeans around?" Creationists themselves recognize the invalidity of this claim...

well, with evolution not all change. the ones that don't usually die out, but in certain cases no evolution occurs and a species continues on. for example, not each ape's offspring are going to be more man-like during evolution. it's just the ones that do that usually live longer and produce more off spring that have a chance to become more evolved.

Your question is disingenuous and frankly intellectually dishonest. Your premise is wrong to begin with, man evolved from a lower form of primate, not necessarily apes. Secondly, evolution takes thousand and in some case millions of years. Finally, you need to get a proper education before you start asking grown up questions, I know I sound harsh, but if you had honestly thought about this question you would not have asked it in such a childish and petulant manner.

To theboz, love your question.

This is a frequently asked question:
http://answers.yahoo.com/search/search_result;_ylt=Ars07Qad.tpXzXZm7MSTeSgezKIX?p=evolution+%22why+are+there+still+apes%22

The short and simple answer is:
We didn't evolve from apes, both apes and humans evolved from a common primate that no longer exists.
Apes evolved to live in the jungle, humans evolved to live in savanah.
There is a lot more to it, but you are really serious to learn more, you should take a course or at least get a decent book on evolutiion, rather than posting a question here.

Since you have been answering questions in this area for a while - didn't you see this asked three times a day or more? The answers will just be the same on each side. And will still be the next 3000 times this is asked.

because men and apes have a common ancestor. They evolved from a common ancestor into Ramapithecus(men`s ancestor) and another form of apes. The apes evolved in their own way and the Ramapithecus evolved step by step into Homo Sapiens, then into the modern man(homo sapiens sapiens)

Because only some of the apes evolved into humans while others did not. They stayed apes.

Apes have found other ways to survive so that is why they are still walking around.
