We create 100% of our misery through desire for worldly things.
"Never have anything to do with likes and dislikes. The absence of what one likes is painful, as is the presence of what one dislikes. Therefore don't take a liking to anything. To lose what one likes is hard, but there are no bonds for those who have no likes and dislikes. From preference arises sorrow, from preference arises fear, but he who is freed from preference has no sorrow and certainly no fear"

Whether I agree with the numbers exactly or not is another matter, but yes, we do cause a lot of our misery ourselves with bad choices.
The reason for that is that we are all born imperfect, so we make a lot of mistakes.
Which brings us back to the "nature" part of your question - If Adam and Eve had not sinned and brought death and sickness into our lives, we would be perfect and our minds and bodies would not only heal quicker (and not have most, if not all, of these problems in the first place), but we would prevent ourselves from doing a lot of stupid stuff that we will pay for later.

The longer I live, the more I realize that a lot of life is about attitude. Attitude to me is more important than facts. It is more important than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company, a church, a home, or even you if you let it.
Although we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way… We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one thing we have, and that is our attitude… I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me, and 90% how I react to it…

Of course not....There happens to be people that have just bad luck all there life.I have noticed to that it is usually the nice people. They have there house burn down.love ones die, they get robbed and the list goes on...So I say it all depends on the person. Some make their own misery but alot don't.This is from over 50 years of watching.

I would say 90% would be the low side of the percentage. Just about everything bad that has ever happened to me was my fault. I vote for 99%.
