The reason why dime machines were difficult to locate is the fact the dime being so light; it created problems with the functioning of the machine (more maintenance was required to operate the machines).
Now with the introduction of TITO (Ticket In Ticket Out) system in a majority of casinos, dime machines are much more common.

I have been to over 10 casinos this year including Vegas, Atlantic City and a river boat casino. In all that time I have not seen any machines that take ANY coins any more. Even penny machines take bills only, when you win they spit out a ticket with a bar code on it. You either take that bar code ticket to an ATM like machine, or a cashier and they give you your money. You can also put that ticket into other slot machines and play with the amount of money represented by that ticket.
The whole concept of a penny machine or a nickel machine is rather pointless anyway these days. First off they usually represent some horrible odds. Secondly by the time you have played multi line maximum credits (if you don't you can't win the jackpot or progressive) you can easily spend several dollars a spin.

There are lots of slot machines that accept dimes. What are you talking about?

Go to Deadwood, SD. They have slots out there that accept dimes.

It depends on where you go. Most places have dime machines, you just have to look harder. They also have Two cent machines.

read ZCT he is 150% correct. old local casinos still take coins but they are changing the machines were they can only take bills or the ticket voucher.

They DO!! anywhere in Atlantic City, NJ! and i am pretty sure Las Vegas, NV you have to look around
