When humans succumb to fear & ignorance, they commit censorship in response to what someone else thinks, says or writes. Censorship is an attempt to control an idea. The censored ideas are labelled dangerous; the censored individual may have death threats made against them in some parts of the world.

Censorship lives on in school boards that feel threatened by evolutionary science, in churches that tell their members what to read & not read, in the federal government when there is information that makes whoever is in charge look bad.

Fear & ignorance go hand-in-hand. The founders of the U.S. understood this very well. Censorship is the enemy of liberty.
The first 10 ammendments to the constitution (the Bill of Rights) directly oppose censorship in numerous ways.

An idea cannot be destroyed. If one person thought something, eventually so will someone else. Censorship may silence some people for a while, but eventually the censors always lose.

Excellent current example: the Internet in China today.

What books were listed? Not that it matters, it saddens and angers me when books are pulled off of library shelves or banned from schools. It it's a controversial book then there could be some kind of system where the parents of minors have to sign that their kids can check out the book, but they shouldn't be banned.
