I am a high school Spanish teacher. The most commonly used words in a school setting are tirar and lanzar. Tirar is also often used to throw something away. Lanzar (as far as I know) is used exclusively for throwing an object.

It depends.

Also TIRAR has a double bad meaning... tirar sometimes is used to say F**K somebody

Acording to the "Diccionario de sinónimos y antónimos © 2005 Espasa-Calpe S.A., Madrid: "tirar" means "arrojar, lanzar, echar, precipitar, derramar, verter, descargar"

tirar is to throw or pull somthing. If you are going to say pull it is halar, for throwing is is lanzar or aventar and.. and there is another meaning of the word tirar that is to have sex... a synonim of that is "hacer el amor" or "follar"
