Don't use motor oil on your pet, they will lick it and it's very poisonous. How would YOU like motor oil all over you?

Pouring motor oil on your pet is an old fashioned home remedy that not only doesn't work but it is harmful to your pet, as well as harmful to the environment. If you use motor oil, the dog will lick it off and ingest the oil making it sicker than the mange, and your pet will still have mange. Leave the motor oil in the garage.

Burnt motor oil is an old folk cure for mange. I have seen one of my neighbors use it and it did work.
Science says that the oil will leach into the skin and cause liver damage in the future and this will kill the dog.

So go to the vet!

While it has been used back in the dark ages I don't recommend it. You need to get a skin scrape from the vet to determin if it's mange and exactly what type of mange mite it is. From there you can either purchase dips and do it yourself (if the vet allows it, if not ask another vet.) or get injections and do it yourself. (same thing if vet allows it.) Different mites require different treatments. PLEASE don't put oil on your dog.

If you can't afford reasonable care.. you shouldn't have a pet. I think putting motor oil near ANY creatures eye sounds abusive.
I would not proceed with any home remedy with the outbreak being so close to his eye without the direction of a vet.

Please take your doggie to the vet for correct medicine! DO NOT put motor oil by your dogs eyes. You could blind the poor thing!
Good Luck getting that mange out!

8 ounces of hydrogen peroxide,4 cups warm water,8 heaping tablespoons of 20 Mule Team Borax. Mix till Borax diluted and apply with sponge till dog is soaked. Leave on wet and pen dog up till dry. Repeat as need every few days. OK to dilute with extra water so dog won't vomit.

I've heard of that, but would strongly recommend NOT using it. Especially so close to it's eye. See a vet and get some meds.
