What does Ban, mean in Thai?

Ban is used in conjuntion with names of cities, such as Ban Huai Khrai. I was looking for friends there, but I got back a listing for 6 cities with this name. Just trying to figure it out.

Village
Different villages may have the same name.
You have to make sure which province or district it is in.
