I would take the money. Because, going back home would definitely not be a good idea."Don't care how old you get you will always be my baby girl" is what my mom use to say.You never officially grow up to your parents. So I would take a monetary contribution and struggle to maintain my independence.

If you have the money to help your child, that would be best, if you lack the capacity for emotional support. I am speaking from my experience of struggling with 33 consecutive brain surgeries, throat surgery, radiation, and more therapy than any healthy person can imagine. My parents(who have a "country club lifestyle") and not capable of emotion outside of having a condescending attitude that their opinion is the only thing in the world that could possibly be right, lack the ability to be anything but selfish, and detached. If you have the financial ability to help your child in a true crisis, you should, and you should ALWAYS support your child emotionally. If you don't know how to do that, then you should seek therapy, and try to men what is likely a very screwed up parent child relationship.

Neither of those options. I would not ask my parents for money or a place to stay. Your question was directed at 30 to 40 year olds, right? If you were asking teenagers, I could see your point, but after 30 you should be done falling back on your parents. Give them a break.

it would be very hard either way,but I would rather stay with my parents for a short while and build my life up to where I needed it to be,money is not everything, the support that you get is worth two times the amount of money that they would be giving you,it's nice to know that you have the support there, yes! it kind oof sucks to think that you are at the age that you are and you need your parents still, but hey they can also be your best friend when you are in need.

My late husband took the money when offered then we were stabbed in the back continuously afterwards. Now that he's gone, I would have rather have had the emotional support; no judgment afterwards.

the second half of your question fits me --
i am now 39 with 3 kids. 12 years ago i was forced to move back home because i needed place for me and my kids, i still live here. my mom and dad would love it if we could make it on our own, but have no problems with us staying right here. i work graveyard hours and my folks watch my kids at night. i often wish that we could afford to move out but then who would watch my kids?
not to mention when i am in a bind money or no money they always seem to have enough to help me out, of course i pay them back when i can.
as for they why -- because my parents did not want me and my kids living on the streets like so many do. at least i had the smarts to go home and ask for help.
now you know my story.

Emotional support means so much more than money....I know everyone needs money- but I would choose the emotional support- no hesitation.

THE MONEY TO HELP TIDE YOU OVER.....IT SELDOM WORKS OUT WHEN YOU GO BACK TO LIVE THERE.....THEY DONT REALLY UNDERSTAND BECAUSE THEY ARE FROM ANOTHER GENERATION.....BEST TO SAY THANK YOU I APPRECIATE IT VERY VERY MUCH AND STAY ON YOUR OWN AND OBTAIN EMPLOYMENT.... BUT, DEPENDING ON WHAT YOU ARE DOING TO HELP YOURSELF, IT MIGHT BE OK TO LIVE THERE TEMPORARILY UNTIL YOU GET PASSED THE ROUGH SPOT..
