It is valid for those who find truth in its pages. It may not be valid for everyone, nor does it need to be.

The bible is a collection of opinions/record of events by only a few different people. It has been proven that some sections (and possibly contrasting opinions) are not included in the bible that is distributed today. It is neither an argument or a guide, it stands to give some people hope but on the other hand is a historical document written in a time so alien to our own that it cannot possibly apply to modern life.

Depends on who you ask. For those who like people to tell them how to live there life... a valid guide. For those who question things, and who have a mind of their own.. maybe both or just an argument... Me.... It is both. It is a history book, but it is also an interpretation on what was going on at those times in history. There are things that make scense.. and things that do not. I question man.. and the bible was written and translated by man.. even if it is supposed to be a book divinely inspired...

Wow great question! Noone knows which is which but I would say both because there are some stories in the bible that seems totally fake and their are some who feels that certain stories are actually true but seems more twisted such as the story of the Virgin mary. People don't believe that Mary was a Virgin even though the bible does say this. It is unbelievable that Mary was a Virgin but the truth is we just don't know what to believe. It may be true, misinterpetated or completely false.

It is a valid guide to the ones that study it with an open mind, to the ones that do not it becomes something they can argue about.

The Bible is the religious history of a people, nothing more and decidedly nothing less.
Many people read their Bible for inspiration and comfort - more power to them.
Three major world religions claim the Bible is divinely inspired - Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. But, we pick and choose what Biblical precepts to follow in our daily lives - for example, even the most ardent Bible-devotee [except the Taliban] probably wouldn't kill his neighbor for cooking BBQ on Sunday.
The cool thing about the Bible is that there are many excellent translations of it and you can read it and make up your own mind.
Thank you for an intriguing question.

The Bible is neither a valid guide or argument, the Bible is really just a fake story, perhaps a bit like the Loch Ness monster tales.
When we pass on information to another (example: story, joke, description of something etc) by the time these details are passed on by word of mouth, interpreted by others, and then written down, the final details are typically quite different than the original information.
Since the Bible is just a man-made story passed down over many years in various forms, the chance of it being accurate in any shape or form is remote.
There are people who swear blind that the Loch Ness monster exists regardless of all the evidence to the contrary, but a fence post bobbing up and down in the Loch does the trick. Similarly there are people who swear blind that God exists and the Bible is fact, yet there isn’t one blind bit of evidence to support such theories.
Biblical tales are really no different than Loch Ness monster tales, just the era is different.

I believe that the Bible is a valid guide, handed down from generation to generation and translated there are bound to be something lost.. but if you apply to everyday life you can love a great and blessed life.

The Bhagavad Gita, the Torah, the Bible, the Quran, the Bayan, the Kitab-i-Iqan...all bear the creative Word of the One True God.
Any one reads them with deep meditation and respectful appreciation will receive great spiritual light and power for the enlightenment of his soul.
Please go back to them and see the truth by your own rational sense.
