What are the steps to do so? I forgot how to do these types of problems.

|x + 2| means the absolute value of the quantity x + 2, NOT the quantity of x + 2 in parenthesis, (x + 2).

you go 2 times X ( which equals 2 ) plus 7
so 2 * 2 + 7 = 11

I don't mich like the first response. I would break the thing up into two parts:
x + 2 <= 2x + 7; -x - 2 <= 2x + 7, address each part independently, and see what happens. In this case:
0 <= x + 5, or x >= -5; 0 <= 3x + 9, or x >= -3. We can test with x = -4 to see which one(s) work:
|-4 + 2| <= -8 + 7; 2 <= -1, which is wrong, so we need x >= -3.

(x+2)^2 = 2x+7
x^2+4x+4 = 2x+7
x^2+2x-3 = 0
(x+3) (x-1) = 0
x = 3 or x = (-1)
since x can't be negative b/c <=
x = 3
