If it has completely cooled I store my cakes in an air tight container. Although usually I will frost my cake the day before and then store it in a mini-fridge (I find the temperature isn't as cold). That way the icing can set but the actual cake won't be hard. If it means anything, I'm a pastry student.
Good luck!

Make sure it is completely cool, I would frost it now and put in a container with a lid and just leave it on the counter. If you use Saran rap be careful cause it sticks to the cake. Don't use Saran rap after it is frosted, it will ruin it.

In the freezer. Wrap each layer in plastic wrap. Then in foil. When you are ready to frost, allow enough time for each layer to thaw efficiently, at room temperature, taking off the protective coats (plastic, foil, etc,) when appropriate allowing each to dry because moisture hastens mold. The one you choose to be the bottom layer, put that one "mounded" side down. Put the second layer "flat" side on top of the first layer. Then frost as usual.

Wrap them in plastic wrap and put them in the refridgerater. And thats only if it is going to be a day or two until you decorate them. If it is going to be atleast a week, do the same thing, then wrap in aluminum foil and freeze. I do this all the time. They will taste just the same and even sometimes can become even more moister.

Freeze it, it will help to prevent the crumbs from getting into the icing when you ice the cake. Just wrap it on the plate and stick it in the freezer, next day just take it out and ice it frozen.

it's ok to wrap your cake and place it in the refridge, make sure you place your cake on a cookie sheet ,then cover cake with food wrap all the way under to the bottom of the sheet ,so it will block air from drying out the cake.
