The prayer direction is not to a city as Macca, but in macca lies the holiest mosque Alharam Alsherif and in the middle of the Mosque Lies the Kabba the first building build on earth that Ibrahim and Ismail had to rebuild the falling sides of it by an order of god so this kabaa is holy for all religion and especially the Muslims and its tzhe direction of prayer !! Thats why when you look at the picture of the Mosque you will find everyone praying in a circle heading to the kabaa.

You have to face the Kaaba...the reason for that is that there should be a unity in prayer....everyone has to pray in the same direction and be united in prayers
