what you need to do is go into hardware and device manager and then look under sounds, you will find the exact name of your sound card in there, also you can look in your case and the name is normally on the underside of the card
having the name at hand, you should type that in to a search engine, dont worry about all the www,s,just type in the card name and you will get a list of sites where you can download the driver
once you have downloaded the driver, install it then after installing it run add hardware wizard, windows will find the driver file and install the sound card

Try going into Control Panel >Performance & Maintainance>System>Device manager and see if there is a question mark against other devices as it may be a pci card that needs an emulator before it can recognise the card. If this does not work install the sound card manually using Add Hardware.
Hope this helps.

Did your sound card come with a drivers disk?

You should check if it is integrated sound card or a PCI one. Drivers for integrated cards comes with your motherboard's CD, and for the PCI card you should have separate CD with its drivers.
