Dont quite know how to start this...but i have had acne since i was eight years old, i turned 16 two weeks ago. EIGHT years i have had it. I have just been put on Roaccutane (sp?) and that is apparently the best medication for acne. I have to go on the pill for a month before i can take the Roaccutane. FOUR days i have been on it. I have acne worse than what i had before. My forehead has completly flared up, my cover-up make up wont hide anything anymore it is that bad.
I said to my mum that i dont want to take this other medication if i have a month on a pill that is going to cause this, she just says "go away" or "deal with it" but i cant.
It is ard enough having acne, and people assuming you are just a dirty person, let alone waking up to a face of spots every day, on top of that getting bullied about it.
I have just started college, my third school of having acne, i was hopeing to start this one with less spots than i had before, but they have really come back now.

I know that the pill can cause this, i knew that before i agreed to take it. But it has made it come back alot worse than when i was first on it.
I dont know what to do anymore. i cant cope with people saying it is just a teenage thing, obviously not if i have had it since i was 8. No one else in my family have it and thats why i think it is easy for them to just say "deal with it" i just cannot cope!
What can i do???

I have been seeing a dermatologist for 9 months. First he put me on Differin cream and Tetralysol tablets then on Roaccutane when that wasnt working. Try contacting your hospital or get a re-feral fromyour Gp.

Keep using Roaccutuane, you dont really know how your skin is going to react for at least a two weeks.I've had acne since I was 10, even though Im still a kid, it's not as bad as it used to be.Im on Pills trying to get rid of it.Sometimes it works, sometimes they dont. You just have to see what prescriptions are best for you.Having Acne doesnt make you a bad person or make you look like your not taking care of yourself, because you are.Even though Roaccutane is the "best" product out there, it may not be the best for you.You have to be confident when you go somewhere even if you do have acne. You are a person, don't let this control you.People will understand that this is not your fault.Don't give up.It will go away.

Oh I just want to give you big hug. I wish I knew more about acne and could give you good advice. All I can think of is two things- get a really good zinc supplement to help your body detox, both from the spots and also from all the (prescribed) drugs you are taking. Zinc is used as 'wrapping paper' round the nasties so your body can excrete them. Second is you might like to try some sage decoction which is good for skin ulcers and bad skin sores. Make it up in a saucepan like a strong tea, and allow to cool before you use it.
I hope you get on ok at college, and don't worry if you miss a bit in the first term but do keep on with the course. If you are taking GCSEs you can always catch up using cdroms, some titles at A level too. Email me if you need more detail on this.

I struggled with acne for years and I finally found the solution that works for me. We have been fooled, tricked, deceived, and just plain lied to. It's time that someone put a stop to it, and everyone learn the truth!

Those of us who suffer from acne have usually been given 2 choices and neither of them work:

1. Over the counter remedies such as cleansers, creams, ointments, etc. These things have been proven over and over again not to work. Why? It does not address the root cause of the problem.

2. Go see a doctor and or dermatologist. They will generally prescribe prescription drugs which include topicals and or antibiotics. This, too, has been proven over and over again not to work. Why? It does not address the root cause of the problem.

I found a step-by-step program that cured my acne and it has never come back. It is amazing and doesn’t use any drugs or doctors. The truth is that acne can be cured…if we know the secret the doctors and drug companies don’t want us to know.

There is a great website: http://cure-my-acne.info/3daycure/... that has all the details. I really suggest you check it out and see if it works as well for you as it did for me.

This might be an indication that your acne is hormone-related if you go on the birth control pill and your acne worsens.

Have you seen a dermatologist? Maybe an endocrinologist? I would ask a doctor about this reaction to the birth control pill and whether it's worthwhile to continue on if the bcp is going to make your acne worse and whether the actual acne med will be able to offset that too. You may need to use another form of birth control that doesn't involve hormones to prevent pregnancy while on this acne med.

I really sympathize with you, it's frustrating when your problem gets worse when you're trying to fix it.

could be a side-effect of the pill that will eventually go away. just give it a couple more wks & if it doesn't improve or gets worse, talk to ur derm again. if the roaccutane doesn't work, then try proactiv; my friend swears it works & it does cause i've seen for myself how much better her face looks.

Try going back to your GP, it sounds like you need to discuss whether to continue this treatment or try something different. Good luck at college, try to remember that there is more to you than your acne, so don't let it ruin the rest of your adolescence. I'm sure people don't think you're dirty, to be honest, they are probably just glad it's you and not them.

I am a dermatologist. take the medication and it will clear up I promise. try and relax a little as well, stress can make things worse, oh by the way a lot of dermatoloists haven't got a clue and work off the following principles: if the skin problem is dry wet it, if its wet dry it, if they're on steroids take them off them and if they're not on steroids put them on them. hope I've helped. Good luck.

I know you don't want to hear this but sometimes the condition Will get worse before it gets better. I would keep on with what you are doing and if it is REALLY starting to depress you, try to find a therapist or councillor to talk to. That will help.
