jim darwin - Don't be silly, the proof is all around you. Go look in the mirror!

cantankerous - We don't stand out? Cmon. Its so blatant that your remarks sound laughable!

J p - Not when the other explanations are WAY unreasonable. Because the complexities of creation could not happen by accident. Thats foolishness. No wonder the Bible says unbelief is foolish.

JP - Based on the fact that the "poof into existence theories" are silly.(Not to mention, regarding the complxities of life!) The power of God is obviously responsible.

Whether you believe or not, I don't think it is too difficult to admit that we are unique on Earth.

Sure, anatomically and physiologically we are similar, but our ability of abstraction is unparalleled, and a marvel we don't understand yet. The capacity for creativity and imagination I think definitely qualifies us as unique.

As to if this verse is the reason why we are so unique, that is much more difficult. I can understand why many people would be skeptical as to having a diety as sculptor idea.

For a believer, I would say that humans created in God's image is an expression to reflect Him as Creator with our own creative (and sadly very often destructive) capabilities.

I think there would be a lot less hostility on this post if we might see that may be it's not the mechanisms to our development of these capacities that are in conflict, but the source behind this development.

Personally, I have a hard time imagining creation of the universe without an original source, and a difficult time imagining origin of an original source outside of a diety.
As a student of physiology, learning about the intracacies of the mechanisms of our world and our very own bodies is amazing. I stand in awe of it's development, and would like to believe that something as myriadly complex and vastly intricate as our nervous system or circulatory system could harldy be an accident. I can accept theories on how things built upon each other and evolved, but the way they link and the chances of such might suggest a plan for some.

With so much pain and degredation that is so apparent and impossible to hide from, I easily accept and understand why there is so much incredulousness from others. I would just hope that these views come not from habit growing up, but from serious searching and discecting of philosophical and theological questions. Then, it becomes a response worth considering rather than reaction.

Sorry for the long post. I love discussing topics such as this. usually, though, it isn't a topic broached often in casual conversation.

The existence of the universe cannot be construed as proof of a deity as it is possible to conceive of the universe coming into existence without divine intervention.

You will have to do better than, "look around or in a mirror!"

-------------------

You assert they are unreasonable. Based on what criteria? The alternatives do not rely on accident, they rely on sound scientific principles.

-------------------

Where do you get this 'nothing + nothing = something' assertion? Science does not say that the universe came from nothing, nor that life came from nothing. You prove your ignorance when you say it does. Or would you care to quote your sources?

The only thing that I would agree with gen 1:27 is the implication that God is both male and female, therefore men and women are equals.

Evolution is a fact, the bible is mythology.

But for a few percentage points of genetic material, we are not unique to a vast array of other life forms on earth, hardly unique, two eyes, two ears, a left right hemisphere brain, fight or flight instinct, covered with fur (sure civilization is changing that), we die without water and oxygen, our stomachs process many of the same foods as other animals, we are mammals, not so unique.

blah blah blah and on the seventh day god made a pig fly and a mouse beat up an elephant, which is why elephants are afraid of mice now. it's true, the bible says so. ;)

If we are created in God's image then God must have some serious issues.
