Yes it was apparently required to show respect inside the chapel by removing any head gear. Different religions have different ways of expressing respect on holy ground. Some require you to remove your shoes. It's sad that he became angry instead of explaining to you better what was the custom.

It's disrespectful. You should not wear a hat in ANY building, but especially a church. It is bad ettiquete and in other countries considered an insult.

From now on, take off your hat no matter where you go. It had nothing to do with being a church.

Men should always remove their headgear before entering a church---it is customary among Christian churches. The priest or minister should not have gotten upset with you----he should have calmly asked you to do so. Obviously, he was having a religious moment.

I'm not religious, but I believe that it's a matter of respect. Just like you go into someones house and they may ask you to not wear your hat inside.

It is just common courtesy to take off your hat in any building structure. Maybe you need to try another church you feel more comfortable in, because going to church is good for you. Learn more about history of Jesus Christ.

In that particular church, it's probably disrespectful to wear head dressing.
In other parts of the world, you must wear a head dressing to enter a religious temple.
Funny, eh? It just goes to show you that it's just ritual.
I'm certain that God doesn't discern.

Well, I think it's the only possibility. I can't understand any other answer. It could be as a sign of politeness or formality. Anyway... I like the picture you give in the link below your text, it's wonderful

Not to my knowlege. Its just a high respect for the House of God. We in the US have gotten away from a lot of respectful norms and that is just one of them.
Reverence may be the key.

Its considered respect to remove your hat in doors. I don't go to a church that hung up on appearance. I invite you to experience a non denominational church, a Charismatic church and see the difference.

There was an English word on the cap. Germans do not like English language!
