Beneful is garbage food, sorry to every who uses it. The best foods are anything that uses human grade ingredients and not a lot of fillers and toxic preservatives... Iams, Pedigree, and Purina all use toxic preservatives and large ammounts of fillers (things like corn meal have no nutritional value...)

The best foods off the top of my head are Canidae, Blue Buffalo, Wellness, and Solid Gold... they all use only human grade ingredients and will make your dog healthier and will reduce vet bills over the life of the dog. You will also be feeding a lot less since all of the 'food' is actually food usable by your dogs body. Most of what is sold in commercial dog foods are very poor quality ingredients, things the companies literally were not allowed to sell to people.

If I had to make the choice between the 2, I would choose Pedigree over Beneful. Please look at the first 5 ingredients on your pet food bag, these are what the bulk of the food is made from, watch the corn and filler, and the premium foods create less pet wast. Different dogs do better on different foods, I feed my border collie, Wellness or Merrick, my lab did very well on Eukanuba. If money is not a problem, I would consider trying a premium food over a grocery store food. Always, always remember when switching your pets food from one brand to another, use 1/3 of the new to 2/3 of the previous for at least 5 days, then go 1/2 and 1/2 for another 3 or 4 days, then 2/3 new to 1/3 previous for another few days. Drastic changes in food create digestive upset for your pet and you want to avoid that.

Highest quality:
Canidae, Wysong, Innova, Wellness, and Blue Buffalo to name a few
High quality:
Bil-Jac, Eukanuba, and Royal Canin
Mid Grade:
Iams, Nutro (max, natural choice, and Ultra), Pro plan, Purina One, Science Diet
Low Grade:
Beneful, Purina 'Chow', Pedigree,ect.
Duck food:
Alpo, Come and Get It, Rob Roy or anything else you can buy for under $20 for a 40# bag.

You want to look at the ingredients in addition to the protein and fat levels. Stay away from foods that list soy or gluten within the first ingredients...this is a source of protein. It is a vegetable protein though and not very digestable to your dog.
When switching your dogs food make sure you do a 10% change over 10 days to prevent your pup from getting an upset stomach.

Every dog is different and tolerates foods differently. For example ,I was feeding both of my dogs Merrick for about a month. It's real high end food. My dogs where constantly starving on this food. No matter how much I fed them ,they where never full.I recommend the premium foods .Again some dogs tolerate them and some not. Some foods can be far too rich for a dog.Through trail and error find a food that your dog likes and will eat.The premium foods are definetly the best. It depends which one works the best for you. These are not foods you can buy in any grocery store.

The low budget foods ,for your dogs best interest stay away from. These foods have all fillers and cancer causing agents. In the long run you'll have more vet bills.

I studies dog food a great deal because I wanted my dogs on the best. By far my dogs look and feel the best on Royal Canin. I looked at Pedigree but the had to many fullers and additives in the food. Dogs are Carnivores and they need the majority of their intake to be meat and not corn. Royal Canin has a very informative website, royalcaninusa.com, they also make breed specific foods which provide the proper nutrients for that breeds need. They do not have a specific one for pit bulls but my pit is on the adult food and it has had amazing results with him. And my Lab is on their Lab food which has done miracles for his coat and weight.

pedigree is a cheep food with lots of fillers (which means more poop!)! I'd stick with the purina! Purina has really improved their foods in the last little while. Making quality food at a good price.

Check out this web site it has an area where you can read your dog food bag and tell how good the dog food you feed really is.
www.spoiled-rotten-pets.com
They have some of the best dog foods available on the market today.
No Pedigree is not one of them nor is Beneful.
Both are full of corn and by products.

I prefer pedigree little chunks. I hae a pure bred pug and the food didn't hurt her tummy or make her sick when i put her on it from purina(that is what the breeder gave her). She is now almost a year old.
