I'm planning a trip to Washingon D.C. and want to know how many days it takes to see everything (Washington & Lincoln Monument, Smithsonian, White House, Arlington Cemetary, etc.)

3 days for the quick tour, and 5 if you want a more detailed tour of the museums. Eat in Georgetown, there are a lot of great restaurants. Don't miss the FDR memorial and the WWII memorial, both are impressive. The Holocaust museum is very moving and emotional but a can't miss. Learn the Metro to maneuver through the city, a one day pass is only around $7

you can "see" everything in 3 days or so -BUT - if you really want to experience all there is to see, take the tours, etc, you'll need 5 days to a week - personally I could spend a week just at the Smithsonian! Try to visit the National Holocaust Museum and the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial as well. Don't forget nearby Mt. ernon, VA, home to our first President George Washington. Oh and I almost forgot the National Zoo. for either of the last 2 attractions allow at least a half-day for each.

Off season, in good weather, willingness to walk, and good planing you can do a whole lot in 4 days.
Arange with your Senator and/or Congressman for Capital Gallery passes and White House Tours, LONG in advance.

Add an extra day if you want to see the National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center out near Dulles International Airport.
