My neigbor breeds them. I don't recomend them because they are becoming the new "fad" breed of dog. Since there is such a high demand for them right now so many backyard breeders are breeding them with out looking into genetics or even if the dogs are related. This has happened before, like Cocker spainels, they where so over bred that they started becoming aggressive and Dalmations where so over bred that it is very common to get one who's deaf. They are also very vocal! If you do get one please find a good breeder who registers the pup's then you know your getting a quality dog who won't die of some genetic disorder from being inbred! And don't forget they'll need special grooming atleast every 3 months.

They are fun but they can also be stubborn at times. Yoshi (my demo dog for classes, she belongs to my neighbor) is incredibly smart, she retains info well and is a generally happy and friendly little dog. The key here is to only buy from a reputable breeder. Do not purchase any puppy from a puppy shop or an online puppy service. These puppies come from two sources: the main being a puppy mill and the other from unethical and irresponsible breeders. To find a quality ShitTzu puppy contact the parent breed club at: http://64.37.122.206/index2.asp. They can put you in contact with local and recommended breeders so you can meet them and see if a ShitTzu would suit your family.

I have had my shih tzu since he was 3 months and he is 3 years now. They are great companions and don't have to have other dogs. They love their owners so much. They aren't too protective, but they are just protective enough to where you don't have to be afraid. They are very friendly to people.

Yes,,, they are the best!!!!! Very calm, even tempered, lovable, affectionate, cuddly. Mine gets along very well with my two cats.
They don't shed and they stay small. Mine is almost two years old and weights 13lbs. They have to be groomed regularly,,,mine goes once a month. Cost $30 a visit. They are great little dogs.
