If you have a garden or buy meat in bulk, then it is probably worth getting. We bought it 1) because we buy meat from an organic farm that is not vac sealed so we seal that expensive meat in it to freeze, 2) we love buying veggies (corn particularly) in the summer and prepping/freezing them so we have good veggies all winter (not canned, yucky stuff), and 3) we buy lots of cheese and several varieties at once but don't always eat them right away so vac sealing them helps them last longer (and at the price we pay for manchego or a good bleu, it is definately worth it!!).

But it certainly comes in handy for other applications as well. Some of my personal favorites are storing berries in the cannisters (particularly expensive raspberries that can go bad in 2 days in the fridge), storing lettuce in the cannisters (I've kept salad - not w/ cukes though - for at least 10 days before it starts to brown. In a regular container, within 3 days it starts to turn brown), preparing appetizers like crab cakes and phyllo anything in advance and keeping the freezer burn off by vac sealing them, saving myself precious time when I entertain (just pop them out of the freezer and into the oven).

I've heard people complain that the bags get expensive and yes, they are pricey. However, I buy them in bulk 6 rolls to the box on Amazon.com and they are reusable so I think very affordable for the advantages I've mentioned.

I love ours and find that I've gotten more than my money's worth out of it. Two suggestions (other than buying the bulk bags on Amazon, which I've found to be a better deal than E-bay if you spend enough for free shipping): 1) buy one of the newer models that both stores rolls of bags AND has a cutter to cut them. Cutting them by hand is kind of a pain. 2) Invest in some cannisters of different sizes. You can do a lot with them and they clean up well for like a zillion uses. More economical than the bags that way.

I say so. We have a garden, and couldn't live without ours. Everything in the garden goes right into FoodSaver bags and we have fresh tasting veggies for months afterwards! It is slightly time consuming to take it out, make the baggies, etc. . . BUT well worth the time and money in my opinion. I've actually given two of them as gifts to family members!

Oh, YES! We buy our meats and fish at either Costco or at our military Commissary store and divide by portions and seal it with the FoodSaver. Works well with corn on the cob and other veggies I want to freeze for the winter. Hot summer corn on long winter nights....yummy!

i think it would be, it doesn't only take the air out of stored food, but you can marinade meat in there, place in the freezer, and take one bag out at a time. Or break down bulk items, like a whole thing of nuts, or rice, etc.

I think in the long run it would help you to store food for much longer and be priceless.

I don't have one though mind you. Was too expensive. But kinda wish we did.
