I'm an atheist, but I can understand a belief in something intangible.
For some, it comes down to whether they want to be the ultimate cause of their own destiny. If God is looking out for you, you don't have to think quite as hard.
For others, it's difficult to imagine there being no intelligent cause to the universe. It's hard to get past that. I should know, I did, but it took years.
Most just follow what their parents or some other authority has taught them. If you're spoon-fed a particular belief or preconception, you often have to look long and hard for lines of evidence to the contrary in order to change your belief. Look at racism, for example. The proverb that "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree" is especially poignant there.
I have more respect for someone who has arrived at any conclusion through their own devices than someone who follows the crowd or what was taught to them from birth.
Grr forever. I'm gonna sing The Doom Song now.

Consider this.. if you have tried to believe and find that you're logical mind keeps you from making the leap into blind faith, is it your fault? If it's true that God created you and yet neglected to give you the ability to easily believe..either by error or by design, where does that lead you? And finally, if you have give hours and hours, days and days, ions and eras of you life in hope of discovering that you truely believe by faith, with your whole heart and a satisfied mind, that there is in fact a living God, if on that moment you still feel left on the outside after giving such a struggle, isn't it time to make a firm decision, a time to set the burden aside and start asserting your right to live in peace without such haunting ghosts as God before your eyes?
Give it a rest and see how you do over the next few years... consider this as well - that our founding fathers of the United States thought it would be wise to remove the confusion of the church out from the way of our infant nation in order to conduct the business government logically and decidedly on the issues of the presant age... were they wrong?

Oh but God is knowable! I know him by the love I feel from him as I pray. I know him by the answers to those prayers that I receive! I know him by the prayers he answers by telling me no. That thing I desire is not what is best for me. I know him by seeing others around me and their trials and suffering and mistakes and know that God loves them and will help them if only they ask! If we will but turn back to him we can have all things what so ever we shall stand in need. When we obey the comandments and do our best to do good things he will be there for us with help of every kind! All we have to do is beleive and ASK!

"Doubt "is a word Christians do not use. So when you discovery GOD you will never doubt. Also, there will be a time that you will call out to Him. You may have already.
He just didn't give you the answer you wanted to hear. We all have some reservations in letting go and trusting. This sound like it may be your situation. But FAITH my
friend is the key. It gets stronger as you put aside your doubts.God reveals himself to us as we let go of our own
flesh. HE is already working on you with the questions you ask. I say continue to ask...and you will receive.

I think God can understand your "sorta" decission not to make a decision for Him without knowing and understanding what is at stake. If you reach out say ask Him God if you are there give me a sign, perhaps He will answer. That's what I did in 1978. He answered me. Now I am His friend. I know Him as well as anyone I've watched. I can understand the reservations of anyone watching those who say they love God but do some pretty bad stuff, but remember people are week, just like you and are easily led astray by leaders who only say they know God because they want something their followers have like offerings or votes. There are those around you who do know God but it helps to recognize them if Know of Him so why not in sincerity (He knows if your not truly searching) ask Him to reveal himself. Don't be afraid cuz He is not like us, He is not week and really does want to be your friend, unless you do not want to be His . In that case He will pretty much leave you TRULY ALONE TO WATCH YOUR CARTOONS ETC.

The Christian God is very knowable...
For scientific and intellectual evidence for the existence of God, see http://www.godsci.org/gs/godsci/evidence.htm
I used to be an atheist. Over a period of time however, I grew convinced of the existence of the Christian God, and ultimately committed my life to Christ (e.g., see http://www.godsci.org/gs/chri/testimony/seek.html ).
Cordially,
John

You can believe in God through faith. You have to know in your heart that He is real.No one can prove that God is real you just have to believe.Look back over your life and see how far you've come.Who gave you the strength to make it through another day or who woke you up this morning?Think about that.

I do know God. I have a personal relationship with Him. I know God through
1. His word the Bible
2. Evidence of what He has done in my life and continues to do
3. Though His creation and beauty, a sunset, the Grand Canyon, the birth of my daughter, the terror and devastation of a tornado they are all evidence and creations of God
Blessed are those who believe...........

If you don't know God, then it probably IS hard to believe in Him. That's why I choose to know Him. It makes things a lot easier for both of us.
