I love siberian huskies and the females don't get very big, but I can't say they don't shed and I definitely can't say they won't tear up your house for the first few years anyway. I have a female and she's not very big, I also have two german shepherds, and they are very loyal, but shed, and at 70 and 103 aren't small. A maltese is perfect, I watched one once while a friend went out of town and she was so cute. She had a very big personality for a tiny dog. Her name is Boo - I think that's cute too. I only had the female husky and one shepherd at the time and she would get right in their faces. It was very cute. Look to see if there is a rescue in your area for them, the dog won't be free, but cheaper. Also my mom got a bischon from a groomer, she found out sometimes dogs were left at the groomer and not picked up so she told them she was looking for a smaller dog that didn't shed and someone left a bischon. They've been together now for years and both seem very happy - best part, she was free (except my mom had to pay for the grooming).

No dogs are perfect. If you want a dog that will not chew, get one that is at least 2 years old, not a puppy. Even then if they have seperation anxiety, they can still be quite destructive. Personally I think Chihuahuas are the best. Sure they shed, but even maltese do. All dogs do, just some more than others. If you want a perfect dog, get a stuffed one. All dogs require care and can make a mess. If you are not prepared to handle the mess of living with a dog, please do not get one, because when it does things to displease you, you may end up taking it to the pound or something because it is not perfect.

dont go to a breeder ! there are so many dogs at the pound and at shelters that need a home--
private breeders charge so much money for their dogs and as i have seen personally, the dog is not always healthy or has an issue that the breeder is not honest about.
i know a woman who got 2 dogs from breeders in Minnesota brought to California and both ended up in the hospital. One was diagnosed with Parov--luckily it was caught in time--the other one had a repiratory infection. including the vet bills and the transportation, she spent over $5000 for 2 dogs!
that kind of money would save the life of so many unwanted dogs who face euthinasia every day.
i hope you reconsider and find a dog that would love to come home with you instead of spending the cash for a "manufactured" dog.

The ONLY thing 'bad' about a yorkie is they run off. They see a car or a bike or a ..person..and they GO GO GO. But they don't shed, they are allergy free for humans, and you will NEVER EVER find a more loving, loyal dog. Mine would follow me everywhere and sat next to me 100% of the time. So did my second york. I have a maltese mix now and he prefers to sit by himself :( but they are cute! Be sure to kennel train, its the only way to go. The smaller the dog, the harder to house break.

Congrats on your new doggie!

Miniture datchhounds are cut, cuttly and very friendly. They love to sleep at the foot of your bed or on the couch. They never shed and think the are good guard dogs. They dont make a big mess of the house (all they do is play pith their toys) while you are gone but when you get home they love attention. They eat about anything you feed them (even chocolate or brocholy ). And even if they are not tired when you go to bed they go with you. They also love to have their teeth brushed with Q-tips.

A Dachhound is smallish

But what I Consider the perfect pedigree Is a french poodle. (Very highly intellegent.)

The Price And Breeder Would Depend On Your Country.
(You Did Not State That)

Up to $5000

Have you done your homework on researching what is the perfect dog for YOU? First all puppies chew, especially if bored and you're not there to correct them. Get a size appropriate crate to keep puppy in when you're gone. It's not mean, they learn the crate is their safe place.
You mention Maltese, what about poodles or poodle mix. like designer breeds? I have several good breeders in my area, the Midwest, but where are you and are you willing to travel?

I've heard that poodles make great pets. Easily trainable, come in several different sizes, and don't shed. As for breeders, check the pound. That's where many of those animals end up when the litter is too big, or they outgrow the puppy stage.

The best advice I can offer is this: visit your local humane society or rescue group, meet the dogs they have, you will probably be able to see alittle bit of what their personality is like since they will be alittle bit older than a puppy too. You will see their haircoat and see if they shed alot or just alittle bit. My idea has always been this: I absolutely love puppies and kittens, but, I like a full grown dog or cat, as I can kind of see what the personality is. Good Luck. Please keep in mind that all puppies need training classes!
